IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS FOR THE CURE 0F FEVER AND AGUE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,882,dated May 21, 1872.
Specification of a certain compound called I Gays Fever and Ague Remedy, invented by G. WARE GAY, M. D.,' of Bath, in the county of Sagadahoc and State of Maine, as a specific and preventive for fever and ague.
To prepare this compound in the quantity of a pint, take powdered muriate of ammonia, eighty grains; sulphate of quinine, thirty grains; fluid extract dandelion (U. S.) eighty drops; tincture capsicum (U. S.) one hundredand sixty drops; essence of cinnamon (U. S.) four fluid drams; Fowle'rs solutiomtwo fluid drams; spirits lavender compound, one and a half fluid ounce; simple sirup, three fluid ounces; Holland gin, eight fluid ounces; aqua fontana, in sufficient quantity to make sixteen fluid ounces.
Dissolve eighty grainsof muriateof ammoniain one fluid ounce of water; then dissolve thirty grains of sulphate of quinine in one fluid ounce of water, by adding diluted sulphuric acid in sufficient quantity; then add eighty drops fluid extract dandelion; one hundred and sixty drops tincture of capsicum; essence of cinnamon, four fluid drams spirits of lavender compound, one and a half fluid ounce; simple sirup, three fluid ounces; Holland gin, eight fluid ounces; and lastly, a sufiicient quantity of water to make the whole measure sixteen fluid ounces.
Directions.
First take a dose of cathartic medicine to clear the stomach and bowels of phlegm and vitiated bile; then take onehalf wine-glassiull of the remedy three times a day, one hour before meals. The first dose should be taken one hour before time for a-chill. One dose in the morning should be taken for a few days after the chills are broken or ceased.
