- This invention relates to a new medical compound to be used for curing diseases or defects They can be cured by the application of the improved balsam oculi, which is composed of the following ingredients, in about the proportions set forth: Twelve ounces of semen foeniculi, produced from sixteen ounces aqua foeniculi; one scruple semen cydonium; one ounce folia belladonnae; half-ounce folia hyosciama; two ounces radix arnicee.
- This mixture is digested during about two days till reduced to eight ounces; then there are added to it one scruple pure opium; one scruple pure musk; one scruple zincum sulphuricuni; half-scruple cuprum alimunatum; which last-named four substances are filtered and added to the first mixture. Finally, one ounce of rectified alcohol and two ounces rose-water are added to complete the balsam oculi.

WILLIAM KLINGBEIL, OF CHAMPAIGN CITY, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS OR EVE BALSAMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,199, dated June 20, 1871.
I do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same. v
This invention relates to a new medical compound to be used for curing diseases or defects They can be cured by the application of the improved balsam oculi, which is composed of the following ingredients, in about the proportions set forth: Twelve ounces of semen foeniculi, produced from sixteen ounces aqua foeniculi; one scruple semen cydonium; one ounce folia belladonnae; half-ounce folia hyosciama; two ounces radix arnicee. This mixture is digested during about two days till reduced to eight ounces; then there are added to it one scruple pure opium; one scruple pure musk; one scruple zincum sulphuricuni; half-scruple cuprum alimunatum; which last-named four substances are filtered and added to the first mixture. The same is applied externally in such proportions and at such intervals as will appear most adapted to the nature of each case.
