MOP HEAD.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LUCIA MELISSA POOLE, OF SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA.
MOP-HEAD.
Application filed March 7, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Loom MELrssA PooLn, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Jose, in the county of vSanta Clara and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mop-Heads, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in the construction of mop heads, adapted for holding mop rags, dusting cloths and other articles, and the primary object of the invention is to simplify and improve the existing art by producing an article of this character which shall be of an extremely simple construction, wherein the cloth or rag may be easily and quickly removed when desired, and which may be cheaply manufactured and marketed.
lVith the above and other objects in view the improvement resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and fallin within the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mop head constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Fig. 2 is a view illustrating the arrangement of parts when the mop cloth is to be arranged upon or removed from the mop head,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view approximately on the line 83 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. t is a sectional view approximately on the line 4% of Fig. 2.
The head essentially includes a metal substantially U-shaped yoke or frame 1, the connecting member of the same being centrally provided with a socket 2 which receives the handle 3. One of the side members or arms of the frame has its end formed with an eye 4-, while the opposite arm is bent upon itself to provide what I will term a hook 6. Pivotally secured to the eye 1 is a bar 7 the free end of the said bar being provided with a loop 8 to engage with. the hook 7. Slidably mounted upon the arms of the frame is a second bar 9, which has both of its ends provided with eyes 12, one to engage with the hook and the other to contact with the eye of the arms of the frame, and it will be noted that this lastmentioned member 9 when moved in the direction of the handle will be brought out of engagement with the first mentioned bar whereby to permit of the said first mentioned bar being Specification of Letters Patent.

disengaged from the hook of the frame and swung away from the frame. Pivotally secured to the socket 2 is a substantially rounded spring member or bail 11 that has its outer end formed with an inwardly extending rounded depression 12 that is adapted to engage with the inner bar of the device and to force the latter into frictional contact with the first mentioned bar.
By swinging the spring bar away from the inner bar it will be noted that the said inner bar may be moved longitudinally of the side members of the frame and out of frictional contact with the second bar, and if desired the said second bar may be released from its engagement with the hook of the frame and swung outwardly therefrom, so that mop rags or the like of different dimensions may be easily and quickly arranged upon the device or removed therefrom as desired.
Form the above description, taken in cennection with the accompanying drawing, the simplicity of the device as well as the advantages thereof will, it is through, be perfectly apparent to those skiled in the art to which such invention appertains without further detailed description.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. In a device for the purpose set forth, a socket designed to receive a handle, a substantially U shaped frame eentraly connected to the socket, a rod pivotally secured to the end of one of the arms of the frame, means for removably securing the second end of the rod to the second arm of the frame, a second rod slidably mounted on the arms of the frame, a spring ring member hingedly conneeted with the socket and having an inwardly extending rounded depresed portion designed, when the rin is brought to one position, to engage with the second mentioned rod to move the same in the direction of the first mentioned rod and to hold the said second mentioned rod against the first mentioned rod.
2. In a device for the purpose set forth, a socket designed to receive a handle, a frame comprising a member formed to provide spaced parallel arms which are inclined an: gularly and inwardly at their inner ends, and the central portion of the said frame passing centrally through the socket, one of the arms of the frame havin its end provided with an eye, the secon arm of the said frame having its end inturned to provide a hook, a bar having both of its ends formed with eyes, one of said eyes engaging with the eye of the frame and the other designed to be engaged by the hook of the frame, a second bar having its ends formed with eyes which are arranged on the parallel arms of the frame, whereby the said second mentioned rod is slidably connected to the frame, a spring ring member passing through the socket at the end thereof, and arranged at a right angle with respect 'to the longitudinal plane of the frame, and said ring having an inwardly depressed portion at the outer side thereof, designed to engage with the slidable rod to move the same outwardly of the frame and to retain the said slidable rod in frictional engagement with the pivoted rod, when the ring is swung in a line with the socket and the handle connected with the socket.
' In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
LUCIA MELISSA POOLE.
