I BY- M M ATTORNEY U N HED ATES PATENT onnibn.
Y en a izonnsrnin, or NEW YORK, N. 'Y., AssIeNon or ONE-HALF 'ro JAMES s.
rnrnnman, or new roux, n. Y.
Toall whom it may concern: y Beit known that I, ULRICH Konns'rnm, a citizen of the. United States, and a resident New Yor invented certaln new and, useful Improvements in. Detachable Heels, of. which the following is a specification.
The present inventionrelatesto improvements in detachable heels for boots and shoes.
The main" object of the present invention is to generally improve the constructionof detachable heels, more particularly the means for interlocking detachably the heel with a boot or shoe.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and eflicient device of the character described, that is of great strength and durability, and is adapted to be readily applied to a shoe and capable of being quickly removed therefrom when desired, whereby the heel section, if worn or otherwise injured, may be conveniently replaced.
A still further object of the invention is to produce a device of the type mentioned, which can be manufactured on a commercial scale, or, in other words, one which is not so diflicult to make as to be beyond the rea sonable cost of such an article.
With these and other objects in view, which will more fully appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the combination, arrangement, and construction of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the appended claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that many changes may be made in the size and proportion of the several parts and details of construction within the scope of the appended claim with out departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
One of the many possible embodiments of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section taken through the heel portion of a shoe, provided with a heel embodying the improvements forming the subject matter of this application; Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the heel portion of the shoe; Fi 4 is a top plan view of the detachable hee specification of Letters Patent.
7 DETACHABIJE: HEEL.
Fi 5 is a section similar to the one shown in ig. 2 of a det-ail,.on a larger scale; and Fig. 6 is a section similar to the one shown in Fig. 5 of a modified detail of construction.
In the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates a portion of theupper of a shoe, to which is attached, in the usual manner, a sole 11. To the heel portion of the shoe-sole is fastened by screws, or otherwise, a plate 12, made preferably of metal, and provided with a plurality of circular apertures 13, that are arranged on a c1rcle. Into each of these apertures merges an arc-shaped slot 14, all of said slots being disposed on the circle on which the apertures are located. This plate is disposed within a recess 15 in the heel portion of the sole, its lower face 16 being flush with the lower face of the said heel portion. The front section of the plate 12 is provided with a downwardly projecting shoulder 17, for a purpose hereinafter to be described. In the sole 11 are furthermore formed cavities 13 in alinement with the apertures 13 and the slots 14.
The heel section of the shoe is denoted by the numeral 18, and comprises the heel 19 proper and a, preferably, metallic plate 20, that is disposed within a recess 21 in the upper face of the heel. The plates 12 and 20, are preferably of the same configuration, and abut against each other when the heel is fastened to the shoe (Figs. 1 and 2). From the plate 20 rises a plurality of studs 22, each of which is provided with a head 22, adapted to enter the apertures 13 in the plate 12. The front portion of the plate 20 is provided with an upwardly extending shoulder 23, to which leads an incline 24 on the said plate.
In applying the detachable heel section to the shoe, the heads 22 of the studs 22 are first seated in the apertures 13 in the plate 12 and in the cavities 13' registering therewith. These positions of the parts are shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3 of the drawings. After this, the heel section is given a turn in the direction of the arrow shown in Fig, 3 of the drawings as far as the slots 14 in the plate 12 will permit. By turning the heel section in the manner indicated, the shoulder 17 on the plate 12 rides up on the incline 24 on the plate 20, dropping then in front of the shoulder 23 on the lastnamed plate.
