DEVICE FOR STBETCHING COON-SKINS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 4, 1918.
Application filed September 10, 1917. Serial No. 190,666.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that HERMANN C. PRANGE and FRANK D. SMITH, citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, at Grocketts Bluff, county of Arkansas, in the State of Arkansas, and Kansas City, county of J ackson, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Stretching Coon-Skins, &c.; and they do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a device for stretching coon hides, and consists of a simple and efficient device of this nature, having various details of construction, combinations and ar rangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
Our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the stretcher.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of one side of the stretcher frame and the loop attached thereto, and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view through one end of a side rail and portion of a loop, parts of the latter being shown in elevation.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A-A designate four strips of board of any suitable material and which have holes formed in staggered relation to one another and disposed at inclinations to the faces of the strip 3.
Pins B are mounted in said holes and over which portions of the hide to be stretched are caught. A loop member C, of any suitable material, is fastened to the end of each strip and is bent to form a loop D to receive one of the sides of the stretcher. The portion E of each loop member is bent at right angles and serves as a means to guide the adjacent strip and upon which the strip slides easily.
By the provision of a stretching device made in accordance with our invention, it will be noted that the frame may be adjusted to stretch different sized skins, the hide being drawn over the strips and held by the pins, arranged in the manner shown. lVhen the device is not in use, it may be re duced to a compact form for convenience.
WVhat we claim to be new is:
1. A device for stretching skins, comprising four strips of material, metallic members fitted over each strip and having integral parallel loops projecting beyond the ends of the strips and adapted to receive a strip held at right angles to said loops, each strip provided with a series of pins projecting therefrom in staggered relation, and over which the skins to be stretched are adapted to be caught.
2. A. device for stretching skins, comprising four strips, a metallic member having a clevis shaped portion adapted to fit over the end of the strip and fastened to the latter, portions of said member formed into loops which are parallel to each other and which projects beyond the end of the strip upon which the member is mounted, and through which loops one of the strips is held at right angles to the strip upon which the member is mounted, pins positioned at inclinations and projecting from the strip and arranged in staggered relation to one another.
In testimony whereof we hereunto affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
