NECK-PAD.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN G. FRIBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Maiden Rock, in the county of Pierce and State of Viisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in l 0Cl -P1ClS,Of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to neck pads for harness collars, and its prime object is to produce a simple and improved construction whereby the side members of a collar may be adjustably connected with the neck pad for the purpose of varying the dimensions of the collar.

A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and effective construction whereby each side member of the collar is provided with flexible metallic extensions adapted to overlap one another and to be connected with stationary upstanding posts or uprights associated with the neck pad, thereby enabling the parts to be very easily and quickly adjusted and assembled.

\Vith these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claim may be resorted to when desired.

In the drawing,Figure 1 is a top plan view of a pad and parts of the side members of a collar constructed in accordance with the invention. F 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the pad. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the pad. Fig. 4 is a perspective detail view of a portion of one of the flexible link members associated with the side members of the collar.

Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters of reference.

The body portion 7 of the improved neck pad may be made of leather or other suitable strong and flexible material, and upon said body member is riveted or otherwise firmly secured a base plate 8 of metal provided with upstanding studs 9 arranged along the longitudinal medial line thereof. These studs will thus be firmly connected with the flexible base plate 7. Each side member 10 of the collar is provided with a flexible extension which is composed of a plurality of leaves or fiat links 11 made of sheet metal and provided along their meeting edges with sleeves 12 for the reception of pintles 13 whereby the said links or leaves are hingedly connected together. Each of said links or leaves is provided with apertures 14 adapted to engage the upstanding studs 9 of the base plate 8. The base plate 8 is provided with one or more turn buttons 15 which are pivoted in such a position that they will be adapted to overlap the link or links 11 engaging the studs or uprights 9.

It will be evident from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the draw ing hereto annexed, that in assembling the collar with the neck pad the flexible extensions of the two side members of the collar are placed in engagement with the studs or uprights 9 by inserting the latter through the apertures 14 of the links or leaves 11, the link extensions of one side member'of the collar being overlapped by the link extension of the other. After assembling the parts, the turn button or buttons 15 may be placed in engagement with the overlapped links adjacent to the uprights 9, thereby securing the parts in assembled relation. It is, furthermore, evident that the device is capable of a degree of adjustment limited only by the dimensions of the flexible extensions formed by the leaves or links 11, thereby enabling a harness collar to be closely and accurately fitted to the necks of animals of various sizes.
