APPLICATION FILED AUG. 7 1905.

Q mm JAcoa TRUEB UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
latented May 1, 1906.
Application filed August 7, 1905. Serial No. 273,114.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J AOOB TRUEB, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Interfering- Boots, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
y invention relates to an interferingboot particularly adapted for use on the fetlock-joint of horses limbs to prevent the interfering or striking together of said joints when the horse is moving.
To the above purposes my invention consists in certain new and novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in myclaims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a horses limb with my improved interfering-boot in position on the fetlock-joint. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the boot. Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the'line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings, 1 indicates a broad strap of such length as that it will readily encompass a horses limb just above the fetlock-joint, and one end of said strap is provided with a pair of narrow straps or tongues 2, which are adapted to engage buckles 3, carried by the opposite end of the strap 1. Formed integral with and depending from the center of the strap 1 is a semicircular section of material 4, and located on top of the center of this section 4 is a series of layers 5 of leather or analogous material, and surrounding this series of layers of leather is a U-shaped reinforcing-rib 6, of stiff leather, which lies directly against the face of section 4. A section 7, of leather, is positioned on top of section 5 and the reinforcing-section 6, which section 7 is secured to the section 4, the strap 1 by the rows of stitching 8 at each side of the U- shaped reinforcing-section 6, and by the circular row of stitching 9, surrounding the series of layers of leather 5. Thus a rounded knob is formed in the center of the section 4, which rounded knob is surrounded by a stiffeningrib, comprising the section 6, The section of leather 7 extends upwardly to the top of the strap 1, and a body of curled hair 10 or analogous material is positioned between the strap 1 and the upper end of section 7 to form a small pad that is designed to fit into the depression that occurs in the horses limb just above the fetlock-joint. The section 4, carrying the rounded knob and the reinforcing-rib, is pressed slightly outward at its center in order that it will fit over the fetlockjoint of the animals limb, and when the boot is in position and held by means of the strap 2 engaging in the buckles 3 and the animal wearing the boot is in motion the fetlockjoint of the opposite limb which normally interferes will strike against the rounded knob and in time the animal will learn to move its limb so that the joints thereof do not interfere.
An interfering-boot of my invention is simple, strong, and durable, and the rounded knob is provided with a reinforcing-rib which causes said knob to maintain its position and not to be battered down while in use.
The boot is all constructed of leather and is therefore more or less pliable and adapted to conform to the shape of the animals joint.
I claim 1. An interfering-boot, constructed with a rounded protuberance, and a reinforcing-rib surrounding said protuberance; substantially as specified.
2. An interfering-boot, constructed with a strap adapted to surround the fetlock-joint of an animals limb, a rounded protuberance carried by said strap, and a U-shaped reinforcing-rib surrounding said protuberance; substantially as specified.
3. An interfering-boot, constructed with a strap adapted to surround the fetlock-joint of an animals limb, a rounded protuberance carried by said strap, a reinforcing-rib surrounding said protuberance, and a pad arranged on the strap above the protuberance and reinforcing-rib substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this'specification in presence'of two subscribing witnesses.
