CLOTHES LINE AND FASTENING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 4:, 1918.
Application filed September 25, 1917. Serial No. 193,164.
To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that CHARLES A. OLSEN and LEWIS C. MAPES, citizens of the United States, residing at Sioux Falls, in the county of Minnehaha and State of South Dakota, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Clothes Lines and Fastening Devices; and they do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apper tains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in clothes lines and fastening pins secured thereto, and consists of a simple and efficient device of this nature, so 'arranged that the clothes clamping means may be held upon the line at intervals to one another. v
The invention is a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction, ments of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which:
Figure 1 is an'elevation of our invention showing one of the clothes holding devices broken away.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the springs holding the jaws together, and Fi 4 is a vertical sectional view through the c amping aws. 7 Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A designates a clothes line wire having combinations and arrangeintegral collars B thereon at intervals, spaced apart. Clamping members, made up of two portions, designated by letters D and E have longitudinal channels F formed in the inner faces thereof to receive the collars B upon said line. The jaw D has'a shoulder I upon one face and the other jaw is adapted to engage said shoulder, so that the outer face of the jaw E will be flush with the end H. A resilient wire, designated by letter K has its ends bent at angles and adapted to engage the transverse grooves 0 formed in the jaw D while the portions of the wire intermediate the angled ends are bent to form the coils N, the portion N intermediate the coils passing between the jaws as shown.
Each of said coils pass about the line wire as shown in the drawings.
By the provision of a clothes line and means for fastening clothes thereon, made in accordance with our invention, it will be noted that the jaws will be securely held spaced apart and being loosely mounted may be turned freely about the wire.
What we claim to be new is:
1. A combination clothes line and clothes fastening device comprising a line with collars arranged thereon at intervals, clothes pins comprising clamping jaws mounted upon said wire said pins being held spaced apart by said collars.
2. In combination with a clothes line having integral collars thereon, clamping jaws pivotally mounted upon said line and the jaws having upon their inner faces longitudinal recesses to receive said collars to hold the pins spaced apart.
In testimony whereof we hereunto aflix our signatures in presence of twowitnesses.
CHARLES A. OLSEN. LEWIS C. MAPES.
