Description
F. L. ANDERSQN KEY HOLDER Filed June 12, 1922 Patented Jan. 13, 1925.
FRED L. ANDERSON. OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
KEY HOLDER.
Application filed June 12, 1922.
To ((77 whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED L. ANnnRsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State oil? Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Key Holders. of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in key holders.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide novel means for supporting a key on a suitable support, as, for instance, a key ring in a manner such that the key may be turned without turning the support on which it is mounted and without intert'erence from other keys which may be similarly mounted on the support.
The novel "features of my invention are hereinafter tully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing. which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention, as applied to an ordinary key ring.
Fig. l is an elevation showing my improved key holder with a key supported thereby.
Fig. 2 is an elevation taken at right angles to the view shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4: is a perspective view of the memher which is mounted on the key ring prior to said member being formed into a ring.
Fig. is an elevation of the key engaging member as it appears before the head is formed at one end thereof.
Similar reference characters designate similar parts in the different views.
1 designates an ordinary key having the usual. hole 2 through which extends a resilient hook 3 formed at one end of a wire key engaging member 4, which extends through and is axially rotatable in a hole 5,
Serial No. 567,568.
Fig. l, which extends through a flattened portion 6 of a ring 7, which may be trans- \"ersely divided and which may have overlapping ends and which has extending through it a suitable support, such as an ordinary transversely divided key ring 8.
The end portion of the key engaging member t which is located within the ring- 7, is provided with a head 9, which is of larger diameter than the hole 5 and which may be formed by bending said end portion into ring form. Said head 9 prevents the withdrawal ot the member 4 from the ring 7.
The ring 7 is loosely fitted on the key ring 8 so as to slide and swing freely on the latter. By having the member 4 arranged to turn axially in the ring 7, the key 1 may be turned without turning the ring 8 and without interference with other keys which war be similarly supported on the ring 8.
By having the ring 7 transversely divided, the ends oi the latter may be sprung apart. to permit of its being attached to links of a chain or to a key ring which is not transversely divided.
I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as many modifications, within the scope of the appended claim may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
That I claim is In a key holder. a supporting ring, a second ring mounted thereon, and a resilient member having one end extending through and axially pivoted on the secondring and having at its other end a hook arranged to releasably engage and support; a key, and normally bearing at its tree end against said member, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
FRED L. ANDERSON.
