Description

May 7, 1940. w. E. RACICOT HANGER FOR PUNCHING BAGS Original Filed May 19, 1939 I INVENTOR.
A TTORNEYS.
Patented May 7, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application May 19, 1939, Serial No. 274,631 Renewed February 16, 1940 5 Claims.
This invention relates to hangers designed primarily for use in supporting punching bags or the like.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a hanger of this character which will permit of free movement of the bag supported by the hanger, and at the same time will reduce wear on the usual hanger strap of a punching bag, to
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be exceptionally cheap to manufacture, and one which will be strong and durable, in operation,
v With the foregoing and. other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of 'construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the, precise embodiment of the invention herein described, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the inven tion.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view illustrating a punching bag as supported by a hanger constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the hanger.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken at right angles to Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the hanger. forming. the subject matter of the invention, is used in connection with the usual pivoted hook 5 of the conventional punching bag hangers.
The device comprises an eye bolt 6 that is extended through an opening in the block I that has its upper surface curved, as clearly shown by Figure 3 of the drawing providing a surface over which the hanger strap 8 of the punching bag supported by the hanger, extends.
The upper curved surface of the block 1 is grooved, providing shoulders 9 at the edges of the upper surface to restrict lateral movement of the hanger strap 8 with respect to the block I.
A retaining disk 10 is positioned over the eye bolt 6, and is held into close engagement with the hanger strap 8 with which the device is associated, to secure the hanger strap against movement with respect to the block 1. A nut indicated at H is positioned over the threaded end of the eye bolt 6, and is positioned to closely engage the lower surface of the block I to insure a clamping action of the hanger strap 8, between the block I and retaining disk I0.
In order that the nut I I will be securely held in position, a cotter .key indicated at I2 is extended through an opening in the eye bolt, in such a way as to engage the nut II and prevent rotary movement of the nut under vibrations of the hanger, due to the movements of the punching bag supported thereby.
The eye section I3 of the eye bolt is of a diameter to fit over the end of the usual punching bag hanger hook 5, with the result that movement of the punching bag will cause a movement of the eyeball; over the hanger or hook 5, eliminating wear caused by the movement of the usual punching bag hanger strap 8, over the horizontal surface of the hook 5 of the hanger.
What is claimed is: I I
1. A hanger for punching bags, comprising an eye bolt adapted to fit over a hanger hook, a block having a curved upper surface, secured to the eye bolt, the upper surface of said block providing a supporting surface for the hanger strap of a punching bag.
2. A hanger for punching bags, comprising an eye bolt adapted to fit over a hanger hook, a block having, a curved upper surface and having an opening through-which the eye bolt extends, said curved surface providing a surface on which the hanger strap of a punching bag is positioned, and means for clamping said strap to said block.
3. A hanger for punching bags comprising an eye bolt adapted to be positioned over a hanger hook, a member having a wide curved upper surface, secured to the eye bolt, and means for securing the hanger strap of a punching bag to said wide curved surface.
4. A hanger for punching bags, comprising a member having an opening to be positioned over the hanger hook of a punching bag, a member secured to the first mentioned member and having a curved upper surface over which the hanger strap of a punching bag'is held, a clamping disk secured to the first mentioned member and adapted to clamp the strap into engagement with the second mentioned member holding the strap against movement with respect to the member.
5. A hanger'for punching bags, comprising a member having an opening adapted to be positioned over a hanger hook, a member having a central opening through which the first mentioned member extends, the second mentioned member having a curved upper surface over which the hanger strap of a punching bag is held, and clamping means for clamping the strap between said members.
