IMPROVEMENT lN SHUTTER-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,858, dated May 14, 1872.
in Fastenings for WindoW-Blinds and Shutters; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of our invention consists in a longitudinally-bisected screw-shell provided with an interior spring-bolt, which is stopped and guided in its motion by the screw, which fastens the two halves of the shell together, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and. use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing which forms a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side view of our blind-fastening. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same. Fig. 3 is a section taken through the line A B, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a side view of the catch used on the side of the building.
A represents the lower rail of a windowblind, into which our fastener is inserted from the lower edge. I) is the outside shell or cylinder of the blind-fastener, provided with exterior screw-threads to be screwed into the rail a. This shell is bisected longitudinally into two equal parts, each half having an oval end, 0, which rests on a staple, e, in the window-sill when the blind is closed, and upon the catch f when itis open, thus supporting the blind in either case, and preventing its sagging. fastened together, before inserting in the rail to, by a screw, j, which screw passes through a 1011- gitudinal slot, as, in a bolt, d, placed within the shell. Above this bolt, inside of the shell, is a spiral spring, i, which presses down upon the bolt so as to force and hold the same on the catches. In the lower edge of the bolt 01 are twonotches to engage with the catches and hold the blind positively when open or shut, and the bolt has also at this end thumbpieces which project a trifle beyond the outside of the rail to, so that the bolt can be raised at will. The screw j, passing through the slot 90 in the bolt, acts as .a stop to the mo tion of the bolt, preventing it from falling out when the blind is open, or being pushed too far up. This screw also acts as a guide for the bolt, in that it prevents the bolt from turning, insuring it always being in the proper position to engage with the catches. These catches may be of any suitable construction, and attached in any desired manner. The catch f, shown in Fig. 4, is the one we prefer to use on the side of the building.
Having thus fully described our invention,
what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The bisected screw-sleeve or shell I), held together by a screw, j, and provided with an interior spring-bolt, d, said screw j passing through a slot, at, in the bolt, and acting as a stop and guide for the same, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
