Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY W. POWERS,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Northwest, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Connector, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a connector adapted to be employed for uniting the ends of fence wires, and for other purposes.
The invention aims to provide novel means whereby a pair of blocks may be united against transverse separation, the blocks having novel means for retaining the ends of a pair of wires.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in top plan, a connector embodying the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the structure shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an elevation showing the inner face of one of the cooperating blocks;
Fig. 4 is an elevation showing the inner face of the other of the cooperating blocks;
Fig. 5 is a cross section on the line 55 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 6 is a cross section on the line 6-6 of Fig. 2. r
In carrying out the present invention there is provided a pair of blocks 1' and 2 which preferably are made of metal. The blocks 1 and 2 have flat cooperating inner faces in which are formed loop-shaped grooves 3 opening, as indicated at 1, at one end, through the ends of the respective blocks. As indicated at 5, the grooves 3 are undercut at their ends. The block 1 is supplied in its inner face with recesses 6 which are prolonged longitudinally of the block, the block 2 being provided upon its inner face with projecting lugs 7 which are also prolonged longitudinally of the block.
The numeral 8 denotes a pair of wires which are to be connected. The ends are fashioned into loops, received in the grooves 3 of the respective blocks l2, and when the ends of the wires are twisted, as shown at 10, around the body portions of the wires the loops 9 in the wires will be engaged beneath the undercut portions 5 of the grooves 3, and the wires will remain securely and permanently attached to the respective blocks. The blocks 1 and 2 are brought together transversely, the lugs 7 of block 2 being received in the recesses 6 of the block 1, and since the recesses and the lugs are pro longed longitudinally of the blocks, a lateral separation of the blocks, and a longitudinal movement of the blocks, beyond a predetermined point, will be avoided.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is simple in construction and of few parts, and it provides a novel and efiicient means whereby the ends of a pair of wires or like elements may be connected detachably and securely.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A connector embodying a pair of blocks provided on their inner faces with loopshaped grooves opening through the ends of the respective blocks, at one end of each block, one block being provided in its inner face with recesses which are prolonged longitudinally of said block, and the other block being provided upon its inner face with outstanding lugs prolonged longitudinally of the said block and adapted to be received in the recesses of the other block.
