SEAL
Filed Feb. lee, 1927 37 Y Y i BMW Patented Mar. 25,- 1930 SIGMUND J. MOSKOVI'IS, or BAYONNE, NEw JERSEY SEAL Application filed February 26, 1927'. serial No. 171,272.
This invention relates to an improved seal.
The object of the invention is the production of a seal, of soft metal, lead or the like, for a shackle or wire, which when compressed securely maintains the shackle or wire locked to the seal and provides a construction which indicates tampering with or detachment of .the wire from the seal after having been pressed in place. The second object of the 1 invention is the production of a seal, with the ends of a shackle or wire bedded therein, and having configurations on its outer faces which will change or be destroyed when the shackle or Wire is removed therefrom. d
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 represents a plan view of the improved seal with its shackle or Wire before being pressed and connected to an object; Fig. 2 shows a 29 side elevation of the seal with its shackle as indicated in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 indicates a top plan view of the seal with its shackle or wire after being pressed; Fig. 4 represents a section of Fig. 3 on the line 4, 4; Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig.3 with a modification;
Fig. 6 shows a section of Fig. 5 onthe line 6, 6; Fig. 7 indicates a view similar to to Fig.
3 with a further modification and Fig; 8
indicates a section of Fig. 7 on the line 8, 8. Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the seal before being pressed is indicated with practically a cylindrical head 20, which has extending from one end thereof the rectangular shank 21, and from its other end the projection 22.
The top and bottom faces of the head and shank are flat and parallel and are indicated at 23,24. The side walls of the shank are shown at and itsend wall is indicated at 26, while the cylindrical end wall of the head 20 is shown at 27. A shackle having the loop 28 is indicated with the parallel members 29 and 30. Theend of the member 29 is indicated at 31 before being out off, and
the end of the member is shown at 32.
The loop 28 in this instance extends through a piece of meat 33. The member 30 in this instance is secured in the seal when being cast. The shackle is then forced through forced through theopening 34 in the seal.
the piece of meat 33 and the member-29 is- The member 30 may also be loosely located in its opening 35 in the seal and may extend all the way through the seal as indicated for the member 29. One or both the faces 23 and 24 may have a numeral as indicated at 36 cast therein or otherwise indicated thereon. The said numerals 36 will not be the same on the different seals, but the numerals will run consecutively. Referring to Figs.
3, 4 after the members 29, and 30 are located I in place, the head 20 and shank 21 are pressed, which in this instance forms indicia, in the form of letters 40, or numerals, in one or bothfaces of the head 20, and cavities or indentations 41, 42 are pressed in the faces 1 23 of the shank 21, and cavities or indentations 43, 44-and 45 are pressed in the other face 24 of the shank. It will be noted'that these indentations do not extend across the full width of the shank 7 from the side Walls 25' as well as from the end wall 26. At the same time the projection 22 and the member 29 are cut off, to produce the uninterrupted smooth cylindrical endwall 27 for the head' 20. During the operation of pressing the shank 21to form the indentations therein'the members 29 and 30 of the shackle are pressed to a zigzag as indicated at 48, 49 and 50. The said zigzag is covered at all parts 51 and 52 of the metal of the said shank 21, and is composed of portions parallel to the faces 23 and 24 and portions at right angles thereto.
It will be noted that the walls of the ini dentations 43, 44 and 45 across the seal are perpendicular to the faces 23 and 24 and are parallel to the portions of the zigzag of the shackle that areperpendicular to the faces 23 and 24.
Referring to Figs. 5 and 6, the head of the seal is again indicated at 20 with its shank 21 having the side walls 25 and the end wall 26. The shackle or wire is again 'indicated with its members 29 and 30. The
cavities or indentations in the opposite faces 23 and 24of theshank 20 are again indicated at 41, 42, 43,44 and 45, and in addition thereto there is formed a rectangular pocket 55 extending from the face 23 and we;
TENT" OFFICE 21, but are spaced thereof with portions 80 .to be taken as illustrative preferably before said indentations are made, and one side of the zigzag 48, 49 andv 50 of both of the members 29 and 30 of the shackle are brought in view, so that it can be easily observed. The lower ends of the zigzag are covered by the portions 52 of the metal of said shank. Referring to Figs. 7 and 8, the head of the seal is again indi cated at 20 with its shank 21 having the side walls 25. The shackle or wire is again indicated with its members 29 and 30; The
indentations in the opposite faces of the shank 20 are again indicated at 41, 42, 43, 44
and 45. The rectangular opening 56 is shown extending through the shank 21 so that with this modification both sides of the zigzag 48, 49 and 50, of both the members 29 and 30 of the shackle can be easily seen.
Various modifications may be made in the invention and the present exemplification is and not limitative thereof. I
Having described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim is:
In combination a seal having a fiat top face and a flat bottom face, saidfaces parallel to each other and a shackle having a pair of members extending into the seal, each of the members of the shackle deformed to provide a zigzag portion within the seal, each zigzag portion being in part parallel to the faces of the seal and in part at right angles thereto,-
said seal having indentations-extending from its opposite faces and spaced from the side and end walls of the seal, said indentations having walls parallel to and between the parts of the zigzag portions that are perpendicular to the faces of the seal.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
SIGMUND J. MOSKOVITS.
