Be it known that I, MISSOURI A. NARMURE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Worth. in the county. of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain useful lmprovementsin Bnttonless Neckbands, of which the following is a speeification. rcferencr being bad therein to the accompanying drawing.

The present invention has reference generally to improvements in that class of inventions known as apparel and more particularly relates to a buttonl'ess neck band.

This invention has for its principal aim and object to provide a device of the above character designed so as to be removably fastened about the neck of the wearer with out the employment of a collar button to hold the ends in engagement with each other, thus obviating the employment of collar buttons which would have a tendency to discolor the neck of the wearer.

As an additional object, this invention em braces the provision of a shirt band, the construction of'which is such that the ends may be secured by a collarbutton -ifsoidesired to enable an effective attachment of a collar of the usual type.

More particularly, this invention embraces the provision of improved means on the shirt band for removably anchoring a collar of a special construction thereto without the e loyinent of a collar button.

Among t lge other aims and objects of this invention may be recited the provisioii'bfa device of the character described with a view to compactness, and in which the number of parts are few, the construction simple, the cost of production low and the ciliciency high.

Other objects as Well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of this inven tion will be more readily apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims forming a part of this specification.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referrir now more particularly, to the accompanying drawings there is provided a shirt 1' to the upper edge of which is secured the body of an improved neck band indicated in its entirety by the numeral 2, oneend thereof extending beyond the adjacent edge 3 of the open front of the shirt and constitutes a supporting flap 4. The neck band adjacent the flap 4 is provided with a downwardly extending slot 5 from the upper edge and which terminates in an opening 6 approximately intermediate the up er and lower edges for a purpose that wi'l presently ap ear. The other end portion at the neck nd has securedto its in ner surface adjacent its outer end through the instrumentalitgy of stitch-es 7 the inner edge of an extension 8 which prog'ects from the adjacent upper edge of the shirt 1 and constitutes a protection flap in a manner that will hereinafter become apparent. That portion of the neck band between the 7' and the outer end constitutes a tongue 9 which is provided on its under edge With an upwardly extending slot 10 terminating "in an opening"- lib approximately intermediate the upper and lower edges thereof and which is designed for removable interlocking engagement with the slot 5 for fastening the ends of the neck band together in the manner indicated in Fig. 2. If it is desired to use a collar but- 9 ton, not shown. the same is adapted to be engaged through the opening 11 so that its base will abut the flap 8, and said button is also adapted to be enga ed by the opening 6 adjacent the other en of the neck band.

In order to facilitate the attachment of a specially constructed collar to the improved neck hand without employing a collar button. a tab is secured to the outer surface of the neck band in substantial alinement with the outer edge of the slot 5 through the medium of suitable stitches 13. Extending upwa rdly from the lower edge of the fla 12 is a slot 14 which terminates in an openlng 15 providing a substantial tongue 16 on the outer portion of the flap 12. This tongue is adapted for interlocking engagement with the correspondingly shaped fla of a collar not shown, such as the collar escribed and claimed in my co-pending application bearing Serial No. 172,411, filed June 2, 1917.

It isbelieved in view of t e foregoing description that a further detailed description of the operation of the invention is entirely unnecessary. Likewise it is believed that the advantages of the invention will be readily apparent.

It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings comprehend only thegeneral and referred embodiment ofthis invention an that various minorv changes in detail of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made within the scope of the appended claims and without sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

Having thus full described this invention, what is claim as new and desired to be secured by Letters-Patent, is

1. A neck band for shirts including a body, a flap projecting from one end thereof,

Copies of this patent may be obtained for the body being provided with a slot extendin dowmvardly from its upper edge at a point adjacent the inner end of the flap, the opposite end of the body being provided with a slot extending upwardly from its lOWer edge and forming a tongue for interlocking engagement with the first mentioned slot, and slotted tabs carried by the rear surface of the body and the outer surface of the flap.

A neck band for shirts having open fronts including a body carried by the upper edge of the shirt, one end of the body con.- tinuin beyond the adjacent edge of the open rout of the shirt and formin a flap, the body being provided adjacent t 1e inner end of the flap with a slot extending downwardly from its upper edge, said slot terminatin in an opening, the opposite end of the body %Jeing provided adjacent its free end with a slot which extends upwardly from the lower edge and terminates in an opening, said slot forming a tongue on the outer end of the body designed for interlocking engagement with the slot adjacent the flap, and slotted collar engaging tabs carried by the outer surface of the band intermediate the ends thereof and by the outer surface of the flap.
