Description

' W. R. THOMAS,
CAR TICKET CASE.
APPLICATION FILED FEB- 28. 1917.

WITNESSES ATTORNEY WILLIAM R. THOMAS, OF DES MOINES, IOWA.
GAR-TICKET CASE.
Application filed February 28, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLIAM R. THOMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Car-Ticket Cases of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a car ticket case and more particularly to a convenient container for car tickets provided with means for ejecting the tickets singly from the con tainer by the simple manipulation of a knob provided for this purpose.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a container having an outlet slot through which a single ticket is projected while the interior of the container is provided with means for causing each subsequent ticket to be moved into position to be ejected after the ejection of the previous ticket.
A further object of this invention is the provision of car ticket case which consists of comparatively few parts and is simple in construction, but durable and well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which devices of this character are ordinarily subjected.
For a full description of the invention and the advantages and merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, in which;
Figure 1 is a top plan view.
Fig. 2 is an edge elevation.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4c is an end elevation.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary section of a detail of the invention on an enlarged scale.
Referring to the drawing, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, and in which like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the main container 1 is of substantially rectangular formation and of a size large enough to conveniently receive a number of car tickets. The side walls are each provided with transverse openings 2 through which are extended guides 3 carried by the marginal edges of the clamp plate 4. This late 4: engages the bottom of the stack of tie ets within the container and is forced tightly in engagement therewith by a flat spring 5 which has its terminals in fric- Specification of Letters Patent.

top wall. In the end of t e container adja- Cent'the top wall is a slot 6 which provides an exit for the ticket to be ejected. This ejection is accomplished by a knob 7 which carries a spur 8 formed on the end of a shank with which the knob is connected. This spur is extended through a longitudinal slot 9 so that it may engage the ..opmost ticket. A ride strip 10 is disposed above the slot an lias its terminals fixed to the top of the casing or container and this strip is also pro vided with a longitudinal slot 11 equal in length and width to the slot 9. The shank to which the knob is connected carries a washer 12 which is movable between the strip 10 and the top surface of the container and the knob 7 is slidable on the strip 10. It is obvious from this construction that when the knob is moved longitudinally across the strip the spur will force one of the tickets out through the slot 6 whereby it may be grasped to extract the remaining portion from the container.
It is to be noted that the spur 8 has its sharpened point extended slightly forwardly toward the opening 6 in the con tainer thereby causing the spur to get an effective grip on the ticket to be ejected. This also permits the knob to be returned to its normal position and the spur will slide over the next ticket until it' reaches its rearmost position. In order that the frictional engagement of the spur with the ticket may not cause the same to buckle during the return movement of the spur, I have provided a lip 13 formed by an inturned portion of the top of the container embraced by the sides of a slot 14. The edge of this lip is sharpened similar to that of the spur so that forward movement of the ticket will not be hindered but backward movement will be prevented.
From the foregoing it will be observed that a, very simple and durable car ticket case has been provided, the details of which embody the preferred form. I desire it to be understood however, that slight changes in the minor details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
I claim:
1. A car ticket case comprisinga container having a longitudinal slot, a guide strip mounted 011 the container, ejecting means mounted in the slot, and supported loy the said guide strip and adapted for engagement with one of the tickets in the case, a lip projecting into the container and spaced from the end of the said slot and engageable with the adjacent ticket in the case for preventing buckling of the ticket when the said ejecting means is drawn through the slot to normal position after ejecting one of the said tickets.
2A car ticket case comprising a container having a longitudinal slot, a guide strip also provided with a longitudinal slot and mounted on the said container, at s ur having a knob attached thereto and slida ly mounted in the said slot in the conta ner and guide strip, one end of the said container having an opening, and a lip dis posed near the opposite end of the container between the said slot and the end of the con tainer and engageable with an adjacent ticket in the said container to maintain the ticket in flat position when thesaid spur is drawn toward the lip after one of the said tickets has been ejected.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
