Description

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIOE.
WILLIAM H. JONES, OF HENRY COUNTY, ALABAMA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF OF HIS RIGHT TO JESSE A. OORBITT OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS OR OINTMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,551, dated May 7, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Ointment, invented by WILLIAM H. J ONES, of the county of Henry and State of Alabama.
The invention will first be fully described and then clearly pointed out in the claim.
In making my ointment I use an ounce each of bees-wax, butter, honey, resin, (or one-half ounce of spirits of turpentine,) sheep-suet, and loaf -sugar, with thirty grains of verdigris. The bees-wax is first melted; then the butter added; then the suet and then the honey. After these have been completely dissolved and thoroughly commingled I add the resin or spirits of turpentine and then the loaf-sugar. After these are melted and mixed together thoroughly the compound is removed from the fire and the verdigris stirred and intermixed therewith until the whole becomes cool. The ointment is then ready for use. I have experimented with the article for some time before applying for this patent, and find that it is effectual in cutaneous diseases, such as ulcers, sores, tetter, and scald-head, and also in chronic and acute inflammations, as poll-evil, fistnla, scratches, and galls.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I esteem to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The ointment compound above described, composed of the ingredients specified, and applied in proportions and manner substantially as setforth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 20th day of December, A. D. 1871.
XVILLIAM H. JONES.
