IMPROVEMENT IN REMEDIES FOR RHEUMATISM.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,274, dated March 28, 1876; application filed January 28, 1875.
To all whom it may cancer-n:
Be it known that I, JOHN F. N. DE FLON, of Alexandria, in the county of Douglas and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medical Oompound for Rheumatism; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it.
This invention relates to a compound intended particularly to cure rheumatism, and is applied externally.
My compound is made of the following-named ingredients, and in the same relative proportions for a greater or less quantity, viz: first, spirits of camphor, one ounce and 25.5 grains second, linimentum saponis or camphoratum, one ounce and 25.5 grains; third, crude petroleum or oil of stone, one ounce and 25.5 grains; fourth, oleum h yperici or oil of St. J ohns Wort, one ounce and 25.5 grains; aqua ammoniae or am monia-water, one-half ounce and 12.5 grains.
The process by which I combine the ingredients is as follows: Take the specified quantity of each ingredient, pour each of them into a bottle, and mix all of them by shaking the bottle, which should be well corked. for about three to five minutes, after which the compound is ready for use.
Every time the compound is used the bottle should be shaken for a minute or more. Take a piece of flannel, and saturate with the compound, and rub the same briskly over the affected part or parts of the body.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The compound herein described, consisting of spirits of camphor, linimentum saponis camphoree, crude petroleum, oleum hyperici, and aqua ammoniae, in the proportions named, and for the purpose set forth.
