Description
PHILIP CARLOW, 0F SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
DESIGN .AND PUZZLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 7, 1918.
l Application filed Decemberl, 1917. Seria1No.207,000.
To al whom t may Concern: v
Be it known that I, PHILIP CARLOW, a citizen of the` United States, and a resident of Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Designs and Puzzles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to puzzles in which a plurality of blocks are used to form geometric figures of differing configuration, the object of the invention being to provide a puzzle of this character comprising blocks preferably of right angle triangular form, and each block so colored that when arranged side by side to form a geometrical figure such figure will have on opposite sides thereof alternating spaces of different colors.
In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification, Figures 1, 5, 6 and 7 are plan views showing different Iigures formed in accordance with this invention; Fig. 2 is a side view of one of the biocks used in forming such figures; Fig. 3 is an edge view showing the altitude of the triangular block and the different coloring of the opposite sides; and Fig. 4 is a similar view showing the base of the block.
My improved block, as shown in Fig. 2, is preferably of right angle triangle formation, the altitude of the triangle being twice the length of the base and is colored differently on its opposite sides so that when the blocks are assembled to form a geometrical Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the or other figure such figure will present on both sides thereof a surface made up of alternating spaces of diiferent colors, as clearly shown in Figs. 1, 5, 6 and 7. The colors I prefer to use are black and red.
I claim as my invention 4 1. A puzzle comprising a plurality of triangular blocks of equal sizes, each having its opposite sides differently colored, said blocks being adapted to be placed side by side to form complete figures of diferent outline and having alternate spaces of diffc-rent colors on opposite sides thereof.
2. A puzzle comprising a plurality of right triangular shaped blocks of equal size, each having its opposite sides differently colored, said blocks being adapted to be placed side by side to form complete gures of differing configuration and having alternate spaces of different colors on opposite sides thereof.
3. A puzzle comprising twenty blocks of equal size and similar shape, each of said blocks having one dimensiony twice the length of another dimension thereof, and having its opposite sides differently colored,
said blocks being adapted to be placed side Y by side to form complete figures of varying configuration and having alternate spaces of different colors on opposite sides thereof.
Signed at Seattle, Washington, on this 11th day of February, 1918.
PHILIP CARLOW.
