Specification of Letters Patent.

Application led January 1.9, 1914. Serial No. 812,930.
T0 all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, CONRAD J. Koirrz, a
-citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Chio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Puzzles, of which the folloiing is a specification.
This invention appertains to a puzzle, and the invention consists in a puzzle comprising a number of separate members or pieces of different shapes adapted to be laid together edgewise and form a rectangle, all substantially asshown and described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
n the accompanying drawings, Figure. l is a plain view of the puzzle showing the different elements assembled in a rectangular gure, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one or' the cards or pieces alone. Fig. 3 is a View of the puzzle in the form of a square ligure. v
The solution or secret of the game lies in placing the cards or pieces together in such position or relation as to form either a rectangle or a perfect square.
As herein shown the figure is a rectangle comprising fifteen separate carols or pieces, which are shownherein as made of suitabl stiff and heavy card-board,or the like, but
they'may be made oi' any other suitable material, heavy or light. rl'hree different shapes or forms otrards are used, and live cards or pieces ot' each shape are necessary to the play, and the different forms thereof are indicated by l, 2 and 3, respectively.
The three pieces a, b and c, one from eachV series oi' live, when properly arranged as shown, furnish the key to the building-up of the puzzle into a rectangular or geo metrica] figure. The several cards or niembers 1 have the shape of right-angled triangles, the cards 2 are scalene triangles, and the cards 3 are irregular four-sided figures (trapeziunis), or the equivalent of the said figures and which are adapted to form or build a square figure as above described.
The faces of the cards may bear designs or ligures of any fanciful or attractive type, or advertisements may be printed thereon.
`\\ hat I claim is:
l. A puzzle consisting of fifteen flat sided pieces otl card-board adapted to be placed edge to edge and constitute a rectangular figure, the said pieces representing three different shapes and live to each shape.
2. A puzzle consisting of flat pieces of three different sha pes and five of each shape and adapted tobe placed together edgevvise and form a rectangular figure having. unequal sides or four equal sides.
3. A puzzle as described consisting o1 lifteen fiat pieces in three sets, one Set of a right angled triangular shape, one Set of scalene triangular shape and a third set of irregular four sided shape.
l. A puzzle as describedhaving a rectangular ligure consisting of ifteen'pieces in sets ol tive each and comprising a square key formation constituted of one member from each set. f
