To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS .M. HALL, a citizen of the United States-,- and resident of High Point, in the county of Guilford and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a specificatio i This invention relates to new and useful improvements in ironing boards, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a new and improved type of ironing board provided with clamping means associated with one end thereof, whereby the board is adapted to be positioned on a table or the like, and raised above it or to project 1atorally therefrom.

Another object of the invention is to provide a new and improved ironing board of this type provided with a stationary support adjacent one end, a folding-support adjacentthe opposite end, and clamping means associated with the first mentioned end, whereby the ironing board is adapted to be clamped to the edge of a table or the like when positioned thereon-by the stationary support, or clamped to the edge of said table, when projecting laterally from the same, the folding support being then brought into operation.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is easily and simply constructed, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will be very efiicient in operation.

With these and numerous other objects in view my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be herein referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.

The numeral 1 designates an ironing board of the conventional type, which has depending therefrom adjacent one end, designated by the numeral 2, a stationary sup port 3 which comprises a transversely extending bar 4 connected intermediate its end to a longitudinally extending bar 5, the tremity of said longitudinally extending bar, having a short length transversely extend lng bar 6 secured thereto. These bars 3 form a foot or rest, that is adapted to be posltioned on the edge of a table 7, with the transversely extending bar 4 lying flush with the edge of said table. The support 3,

will hold the board 1 above the table and parallel therewith, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

A folding support 8, which is formed of a pair of legs hingedly connected as shown at 10 with the opposite end of said ironing board, which is designated by the numeral 11, said legs being adapted to be swung up-l wardly beneath said board, and substantially parallel therewith, being held in said position by a pivoted locking member 12. The folded position is clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and these supporting legs are only employed when the ironing board is positioned so that the same pro,-

jects from. the edge of the table as shown clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

The extremities of the body portion 13 are bent laterally in opposite directions, the up per bent extremity forming a projecting lip 15 disposed parallel with, and in spaced relation beneath the end 2 of the ironing board 1. Theoppositely projecting lip 16 on the lower end of the body portion of said strip, is adapted to project rearwardly beneath said board, and when the ironing board is positioned on a table as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the said lip is positioned parallel and in spaced relation, beneath the edge of said table. Each of the lips are provided with longitudinal adjustable thumb screws 17, which are adapted to form the clamping means to securely hold the device in position.

In operation, when the ironing board is 35 plicable type of projecting main support Fig. 1 of the drawings, the projecting lip 16, and the clamping screw 17 are employed to clamp the support 3 against the projecting edge of the table. When the parts are in this position, the folding support 8 is folded, so that the legs will be positioned directly beneath the lower surface of the ironing board. When so positioned, a sleeve board,

' not shown, may be clamped to the? ironing board, between the projecting lip 15, and the lower surface of the end 2 of said board.

When it is inconvenient to position the board above a table or the like, and it is desirable to project the ironing board laterally from the main support, the end 2 of the board is positioned on the main support, and the projecting lipv 15 will be disposed beneath the same. Upon operation of the clamping screw 17 the projecting edge of the table or the like will be securely clamped between these parts, to hold the board in position. To additionally support the projecting end 11 of said board, the pivoted looking member 17 is swung to inoperative position, and the legs 8 are allowed to drop, whereupon they will rest upon the floor, in upright position to securely hold the board rigid.

Having fully described my invention, what vI claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1.' The combination with an ironing board of the class described, of a stationary support adjacent one end thereof, and clamping means associated with said end of the boar adapted to clampingly engage the edge of a table between the stationary support or the projecting end of the board according to the position of said board.

2. The combination with an ironingboard, a stationary support adjacent one end thereof, a swinging support adjacent the opposite end, clamping means associated With said board including a vertically disposed body portion secured to one end of the stationary support and extending below the same, oppositely bent laterally extending lips on the extremities of said body portion, and thumb nuts carried by said lips and longitudinally adjustable through the same.
