Description

0. FRESH, KNIFE REST,
APPLICATION FILED .lUNE 9,1911- Patented May 7,1918.
CLARA FRESH, OF NEW BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
KNIFE-REST.
Application filed June 9, 1917.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, CLARA FRESH, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, resident of New Bedford, county of Bristol, and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knife-Rests, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in rests or supports and particularly to types adapted to be used upon tables from which food is served.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a rest upon which the blades of knives, forks and spoons and the like, may be supported after having once been used so as to prevent soiling the linen on the table, the rest supporting the implement in such way that the same may be readily grasped when it is desired to make use of it.
A further object is to provide such devices in forms which may be cheaply manufao tured, and which present an attractive appearance in harmony with the silver ware used.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in I the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure l is a perspective view showing a support or rest made in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view, and
Fig. 3 is a further enlarged perspective view showing one end of the support rail.
The invention consists of a pair of oppositely disposed, substantially H shaped ornamental supports having curved legs 10, terminating in spherical feet 11, adapted to rest upon any level surface, as the linen table cover, without in any way injuring the same, the legs being connected by an integral center or hub 12, containing a rectangular opening 14, suited to receive a correspondingly shaped tenon 16, formed at the ends of the support bar 17, the shoulders 18 of which are adapted to be drawn tightly against one side of the hub 12 by means of screw-threaded knobs 20, arranged on the Specification of Letters Patent.

opposite side and engaging with screws 21, having enlarged heads 22, the heads being secured in recesses 24, formed in the rectangular extensions 16, open at one side and through which is an open slot 25 receptive of the screw-threaded shank portions of the screws 21.
Thus the main elements of the article are rigidly held together in such manner as to afford a convenient support for implements as before mentioned.
It will be observable that the height of the rod 17, relative to the surface upon which the device stands, may be changed by turning the article upon its side, and it will be understood that the device may be furnished in a highly ornamental manner and made of such material as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a pair of substantially H shaped support elements, said elements having spherical extremities, of a rod extending between said support elements, said rod h aving squared extensions at each end thereof and suited to enter corresponding openings formed in said support elements, screws removably engaged in said extensions, and means for securing said support elements rigidly with said screws upon the opposite side of the supports from which said rod extends.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a pair of substantially H shaped support elements having spherical terminals and containing rectangular openings, of a rod extending between said elements, rectangular extensions at the ends of said rods adapted to be received within the openings within said supports, means for engaging screws in said extensions, and threaded knobs engageable with said screws adapted to be applied upon the outer side of said supports.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
CLARA FRESH.
