To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. LAVIN, a citizen of the United States, residin at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwau Ice and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in. Wrappers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved wrapper or binding strap for currency, bank bills, checks, and other similar papers, the object of the invention being to provide an improved wrapper of this class which serves to tightly bind the' papers, to prevent them from slipping, and which obviates the use of.
pins or other like devices such as are now commonly employed in banks and counting houses for this purpose.
The invention consists in av binder strap broadened at one end and provided in the broadened portion with a series of slots, spaced from said end, to receive the narrowed portion of the strap and enable the same to be readily secured, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a plan of a wrapper construct, ed and arranged in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same as in use on a bundle of bank notes or the like.
In accordance with my invention I provide a band or strap 1 which may be made of paper or any other suitable flexible material and which is formed with a broadened portion 2 at one end and with a narrowed portion 3 at the opposite end. The broadened portion is creased transversely as at 4, at a suitable distance from the outer end, to provide a flap 5 which is bent on the crease 4 and is adapted to be inserted between two of the bank notes or other papers at a point near the center of the bundle. The broadened portion of the strap is also provided with .a series of slots 6, 7, 8 and 9, the slot 6 being nearest the crease 4.
To use the wrapper the same is passed and drawn tightly around the bundle, after hav-' ing first inserted the flap 5 in the bundle, and the narrowed end of the wrapper or binder is then passed through the slot 6 and out of the slot 9, and then doubled and passed through the slot 8 and out of the slot 6, and is again doubled and passed back through the slot 7 and out of the slot 8, thus forming a doubled lock, which effectually prevents the wrapper from slipping.
By theprovision of the flap 5 which passes through the center of the bundle, the wrapper is prevented from slipping and hence the bundle is securely wrapped or bound.
Having thus described my invention, I cl aim A binding wrapper of the class described having a broadened portion at one end and a narrowed portion at the opposite end, the said broadened portion being creased at a point spaced from its outer end to form a flap for insertion in a bundle, said broadened portion being also provided at a point spaced from the crease and between the same and the narrowed portion, with a series of spaced transverse slots for the reception of the narrowed portion and to permit the narrowed portion to be doubled and form locking bights.
