Description
A. McGLAUFLIN.
PORTABLE WASHSTAND.
APPLICATION FILED QCT. 1. 191:.
LQM W5 Patented Apr. 23, 1918.
specification oflletters Patent. Patgntgd App, 23, 1918,,
Application filedOctober 1, 1917. Serial No. 194,172.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADnLrA MOGLAUFLIN, a citizen of theUnited States, and resident of San Rafael, in the county of Marin and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Vashstands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to basins and it is the principal object of the invention to provide an improved foldable washstand for use in hospitals or by doctors, which when arranged in set up position can be used for various purposes and when folded will require but little room, thereby renderingthe same especially desirable for use in confined places. y
Amongother aims and objects of the in vention may be recited, the provision of a device of the character mentioned with a view to compactness, and in which the number of parts are few, the construction simple, the cost of production small, and efliciency and durability high.
The improvements in the details and arrangements of parts will be appreciated from an inspection of the accompanying drawings in connection with the specific description hereinafter contained, and wherein the preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed for the purpose of imparting a full understanding of the same.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the improved washstand; r
Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section therethrough; and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail in section showing the engagement of the article shelf with the legs of the stand.
Having more particular reference to the drawings and in connection with which like reference characters will refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 represents the basin of theimproved stand comprising a substantially rectangularly shaped receptacle having the bottom 2 thereof arrangedslightly above the lower marginal edges of the side and end walls of the same. A cover 3-is hinged to one wall of cover will serve as an efficient draining shelf for receiving various surgical implements or other articles.
Pivotally connected with the lower portions of the opposite sides of the basin 1 are spaced legs generally indicated by the numeral 5, the said legs being preferably formed of angle metal and are capable of slight lateral'play in order that a shelf 6 may be engaged with the transverse braces 7 of the same; it being noted that the opposite ends of the shelf are reduced. Obviously, by engaging the shelf with the braces, the legs will be braced in their spaced relations and undue collapsing or folding of thesame is prevented while in use. However, when folding the legs upwardly into the space afiorded by the positioning of the bottom 2 of the basin, the shelf 6 which has been previously disengaged from the braces may be then arranged over the lower marginal edges of the side and end walls of the basin 1, thereby affording an efficient closure and preventing further movement of the pivotal legs 5.
The bottom 2 of the basin 1 should be and preferably is provided with a suitable drain opening having a nipple 8 surrounding the same, whereby a plug 9 may be inserted therein at times. If, desired, a flexible hose 10 or other form of drain may be connected with the nipple 8 and engaged with a pailor other receptacle for receiving the water drained from the receptacle or basin 1.
I desire to have it understood that the basin may be formed of any suitable ma terial preferably sheet metal which is coated with a suitable composition, such as enamel or the like for rendering the same attractive f and sanitary.
Manifestly, the construction is capable of considerable modification and such modification as is within the scope of my claim I consider within the spirit of my invention.
I claim A foldable washstand, including a basin having its bottom arranged in spaced relaends engageable with the braces at times, tion from the lower edges of the side and and engageable over the lower edges of the end Walls thereof, said bottom having a side and end Walls of the basin at other times, 10 drain opening formed in the same, legs and a hinged cover for the basin.
pivoted to the opposite ends of the basin In testimony whereof I, afiixniy signature and foldable thereinto, transverse braces enhereto.
gaged with the legs a shelf having reduced ADELIA MCGLAUF LIN.
