Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 23, 1W1.
Application filed August 23, 1917. Serial No. 187,742.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL J. Sonwanzn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Adrian, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buzzers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to electrically-operated buzzers and comprises the construction as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the buzzer with the cover of the casing removed;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the completed buzzer.
Ais a base formed of pressed sheet-metal having a marginal flange B extending thereabove and rearward therefrom, terminating in one or more laterally-extending perforated ears 0 forming the securing means therefor. The base A is substantially rectangular in form and is provided with a depressed panel D cut away at D. E is a Z-shaped member having its central portion secured to said depressed panel, with the rearwardly-extending flange E extending through the aperture therein and the outwardly-extending flange E at one side of said panel. F are magnetic cores mounted upon the flange E and extending parallel to each other and the base. G are magnet coils upon the cores. H is a non-magnetic bridge between the outer ends of said cores. I is a striker-bar slidably secured in alined apertures in said flange E and bridge H and extending between the coils G. J is an armature mounted on one end of the bar I, being provided with an outwardly-extending and return-bent portion J. K is a resilient vibrator mounted on the rearwardly-extending flange E and extending outward through the aperture 1) into the open return bend J. L is an insulated electrode also mounted on the flange E but insulated therefrom, and K L are 006 erating contacts on the members K and M is a cover which is formed of pressed sheetmetal, being provided with tongues M adapted to be sprung into engagement with apertures l 2 in the base. The cover M has a marginal. flange, a portion of which extends into proximity to the outer end of the striker I. O are terminal posts mounted upon the base at one side thereof.
In operation the vibrator K, in cooperation with the electrode L and contacts K L, will cause the reciprocation of the armature J, which in turn will reciprocate the striker ll, causing a succession of blows against the side of the casing M, which produces the sound.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. An electric buzzer, comprising a base formed of pressed sheet-metal having a marginal rearwardly extending flange thereabout terminating in one or more laterallyextending perforated ears forming the securing means, said base having a depressed panel, a magnet mounted on said depressed panel, an armature for said magnet movable parallel to said base, a striker-bar secured to said armature, and a cover for said depressed panel and magnet having a marginal flange in proximity to said striker-bar, against which the latter is adapted to impinge.
2. An electric buzzer, comprising a base formed of pressed sheet-metal having a rearwardly-extending flange thereabout and a depressed panel, a magnet mounted on said depressed panel comprising a Z-shaped member having its central portion secured to said depressed panel, a rearWardly-extending flange projecting through an aperture in said panel and an outwardly-extending flange, magnet cores secured to said outwardly-extending flange and arranged parallel to each other on said base, a non-ma netic bridge member between the outer en s of said cores, a striker-bar slidably secured in alined apertures in said outwardly-extending flange and non-magnetic bridge, an armature mounted on said striker-bar, a vibrator mounted on said rearwardly-extending flange and extending through the aperture in said depressed panel into operative-relation to said armature, and a cover for said depressed panel and magnet formed of pressed sheet-metal, being provided with diametrically opposite tongues for engaging corresponding apertures in said base, and one side of said cover being in proximity to the end of said striker-bar so as to be struck thereby.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
CARL J. SCHWARZE.
