To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, RAYMOND D. VERCLER, a citizen of the United States,y residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in J ewelers Testing-Cases, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to an acid bottle container, and particularly to the class of jewelersacid testing cases.

The lprimary object of the invention is the provision of a case of this character, wherein bottles containing acids for testing pur- Y poses are conveniently held to be readily accessible, the case being devoid `of metal hinges and catches to eliminate any action of the acid fumes thereon, while in `addition to the bottle compartments, other compartments are arranged lwithin 4the case for the reception of testingrslabs or stones, and testingneedles, which are freely accessible and yet not subject to attack by acid fumes, thereby preventing corrosion and sweating of the needles. j

Another object of the invention is the provision of a vcase of this character wherein the saine, when open, affords a testing table which will absorb any acid should the saine spill from the testing` stone or slab, thereby eliminating the dropping of the acid on a show-case or other support, and causing damage to the clothes ofa user.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a case of this character wherein, on the opening thereof, it will have a iirm prevent the turning oir tipping over of the saine, which would be more or less dangerous, in view of the use to which the case is put. i

There are various other objects and advantages of this invention besides the above, all `of which will be hereinafter more particularly brought out in the following speciiic description in the preferred embodiment of the invention, the saine being illustrated in the accompanying drawing, where- 111:-

In 'constructing a practical embodiment of the invention in accordance with the illustrated example, the case A is provided, preferably comprising a substantially rectangularly shaped box-like body 10, made from wood, although the/saine may bemzde from any other material, open at its top and having interiorl'y thereof in proximity to `one venda transverse partition 11, which is fastened to opposite side walls of said `bodyih any suitable manner, and divides the latter into independent compartments 12 and 13, respectively; rThe Compartment 12 is designed to receive bottles 1dA containing acids used by jewelers for testing purposes, while the compartment 13 is adapted to receive a testing slab or stone and testing needles, not shown, of the usual 'coi'istruetion.v

j The partition 11 is of less height than the walls of the body 10: with the `eXcei'ition of one end wall 15 thereof which is of similar height thereto, and in this manner a clear# ance is aii'orded for a' swinging lid B nereinafter fully described.

The lid B comprises a board-like section 16 which constitutes a testing table when the-lid has been `completely swung te `open position, the section being swingingly vsupported on a pivot rod 17 passed through the saine near one end edge, and journaled in the opposingl sides of the `body 10 above the end wall 15 for the swinging of said section tov open' or closed positions, and on `the" closing of the same, illustrated by dotted lines in F ig. 3 of the drawing, it within the body and rests upon the partition 11 with the outer surface of said seetion flush `with the upper edges of 'said body,- therebyornpletely closing the compartment 13 therewith.

The free end of the section 16 has fastened thereto, or integral therewith, a crowning cap 18 which constitutes a cover for the compartment 12 receivingthe bottles 14 to completely house the same and accommodate lthe heights of such bottles placed therein, the cap 18, when the lid is opened, being designed to form a leg for the section 16 to hold it substantially horizontal and level forV the convenient use thereof at its upper surface as a work table or bed, and for the testing stone or slab which 1s placed thereon for use with the testing needles by jewelers. The interior ofthe cap 18, when the lid is open, can be used as a compartment 19 for receiving jewelers tools', or any other article, while. the jeweler is 'at work testing.

y In the use ofthe case, should any acid spill from the stone or slab upon the testing table constituted by the section 16 when the lid is open, it will be absorbed by the .the j eweler.

A case of the characterdescribed, comprising a body having a transverse partition therein to. form independent compartments, one of whichl is adapted toreceive bottles, and a lid having a board-like section for closing one compartment and also having a crowning cap to cover the bottles of the other compartment, said section and cap moving as a rigid unit, and the cap, when the lid is movedY back,'serving as a support therefor, and enabling the board-like section of the lid to be used as a-Ytable.

2. A case of the character described, comprising a body having a transverse partition.

a lid having a board-like section for closing one compartment and also` having a crowning cap for the other com artment, said cap being open at one side, wiich open side receives the necks of bottles placed in said compartment, and a pivot swingingly connecting the lid to the end of the body, whereby when the lid is swung outwardly from the body, the cap is inverted with the open side uppermost so as to form a receptacle, while the rest of the lid forms a table with the cap serving as a support therefor.

3. A case of the character described, comprising a body having a transverse partition therein to form independent compartments,

va lid having a board-like section for closing one compartment and also having a crowning cap for the other compartment, and a Ypivot swingingly connecting the lid to the end of the body, the cap when the lid is open and swung back from the body being designed to form a supporting leg for the board-like section, said section being capable of use as a table.

A case of the character described, comprising a body having a transverse partition therein to form independent compartments, one end wall of the body and the partition being of uniform height with respect to each other, but of less height than fthe remaining walls of the body, a lid having a board-like section for closing one compartment and also having acrowning cap for closing the other compartment, a pivot swingingly connecting the lid to the end of the body, the crowning cap when the lid is open and swung back from the body being designed to form a supporting leg for the board-like section, which section serves as a table and on closing the said lid the section will lit within the body above the shorter end wall and said partition to have the outer surface of the section Hush with the top edges of the body.
