MOP-WRINGER.
I Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that We, STEPHEN KALIsz, of Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, and IoNAo Eirmaorn of Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, both sub ects of the Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mop-Wringers; and we do hereby declare that the specification set forth herein is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
his invention relates to improvements in mop wringers adapted to constitute a The invention has for particular object. to provide a mop Wringer of the character defined'which will provide normally a very wide'space between the wringer rolls and mechanism for readily causing said rolls to approach each other to engage the interposed mop, and to be held firmly compressed against said mop for the purpose of wringing all liquid from the latter as the same is withdrawn from the rolls.
A further object of the invention is to provide a mop wringer of the character defined in which one of the Wringer rolls is equipped with a crank for manually rotating the same and its companion ldle roll for The invention consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and particularly claimed.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating a suitable embodiment of the invention:
igure -lis a View a mop wringer and liquid container carryin the same constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail section of the same on the line 33 of Fig. -1.
Our said device comprises the rectangular tank or container 1 upon the upper end or rim of which there is mounted a suitable frame comprising side rails 2, and end rails 3 and 4 respectively. The side rails are secured by means of bolts 5 to the end rails in side elevation of I Patented Apr, the, 1918i application filed July 3, 1916. Serial N 0. 107,449.
3 and 4, and the latter are cured to the upper end or rim receptacle of the tank or 1 by means of the projection 6 extending upwardly from the upper end or rim of the tank 1 through slots in the said end rails 3 and 4. he said projections are provided with openings through which the latch members 7- pivotally mounted on the end rails 3 and at engage; said latch members' being preferably spring-held or otherwise maintained normally engaged with said and spanning the slots through which the latter extend to prevent the accidental loosening of the frame of the wringer from the receptacle 1.
he side rails 2 are provided with longitudinal slots 8 bordered on the inner faces of the rails 2 by horizontal flanges 9, which serve to prevent the flow of water through the slots 8 and over the upper edge or rim of the receptacle 1 during the mop-wringing operation. The idle roll 11 is rotatably mounted in the shoes 10, the latter being coupled by means of a shaft 12 journaled in bearings 13 projecting through and movable in the slots 8 through which the bear ings for the trunnions let of the roll 11 also project. The said shoes 10 and shaft 12, together constitute a carriage for the roll 11, and said carriage is reciprocable in the slots 8. The side rails 2 are further provided with upwardly extending projections 15 in t 1e upper ends of which there are bearings 16 or a rocking member '17 which comprises a shaft equipped with two parallelarms 18 contiguous to its ends, h a substantially transversely extendlng middle arm 19. The latter is connected by means of a link 20 with the outer end portion of a foot lever 21. The foot lever is pivotally mounted on a projection 22 on an end wall of the receptacle or tained in the position shown in Fig. 1- by the spring 23 in a well-known manner.
he arms 18 are connected by links 24 with the shaft 12 so that upon depressing the foot lever 21 against the action of the spring 23 the said arms 18, which normall project toward and over one end wall of'the receptacle 1, will be turnedto impart movement to the carriageof the roll 11 to cause the latter to approach the companion wringer roll 25. The trunnions of the latter pass through the slots 8 and one of the slime carries a crank handle 26 b means of which it is rotated. Beth the re lit and 25 are vessel 1, and is normally mainremovably sethat when moved preferably corrugated so the rotary motion to mesh with each other imparted to the roll 11 either directly or through the interposed mop. The rocking member is adapted to turn through an arc in excess of ninety degrees so that the arms 18 and links 24 will approach a position commonly known as dead center, and xert considerable pressure upon the mo and roll 25 so that, as the latter is turne in a clock-wise direction, the wringing operation will be very efiiciently performed at-the same time that the mop is moved upwardly from the receptacle and therwater wrung therefrom asses downwardly into the latter.
While'we have shown the preferred em bodiment of the invention in the accompanying drawings, it will be obvious, of course, that the same may be varied and modified as to'details of construction without departing from the invention as defined in the appended claim.
We claim as our invention: v In a mop wringer, a receptacle, a frame having a rectangular central opening adaptof the receptacle and be of wringer rolls the side bars of ed to span the top latched thereto, a pair mounted for rotation on @opiea at this patent may be obtainedrfor five cents each, by addressing the Washington, 3. G.
to the roll 2-5 will be transmitted "of said carriage whereby a ses es? said frames and of said rolls being fixed and a carriage movable on said frame toward and from said fixed roll and carrying the other roll, a rocking member mounted above one end of said frame in standards rising therefrom, a central upstanding arm on said rocking member and rearwardly extending substantially horizontal arms on said member, one at each end thereof, links connecting the outer ends of-said horizontal arms to the opposite ends when the horizontal arms are swung around said rocking member the carriage with said roll is moved lever pivotally toward the fixed roll, a foot mounted on the end of said receptacle below said rocking member and extending outwar dly and upwardly therefrom, a spring adapted to hold the foot lever in raised position, and a link connecting the outer end of the foot lever with the upper end of the centrally disposed arm on the rocking memher so that when the foot lever is moved down and up the carriage with its roll will be moved toward and away or opposite roll.
