UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN VON KANEIQOF AKRON, OHIO.
MOP-WRINGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 707,235, dated August 19, 1902. Application filed July 3,1901. Serial No. 67,013. No model-l To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, JOHN VON KANEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in
the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-Wringers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for squeezing the surplus water from the mop after immersion in a pail of water, and particularly to that class of wringers that are adapted to be removably attached to the side of the pail.
The objects of my invention are to provide a device of the class described which maybe manufactured at a minumum cost and that is effective in operation.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of the mop-wringer open to receive the mop after immersion; Fig. 2, a frontview, the wringer being in the position it as sumes when emitting the water from the mop; and Fig. 3, a vertical longitudinal section showing the wringer attached to a pail, and Fig. 4 a detail view of the operating mechanism.
Referring to the drawings, in which similar lettersof reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, thesides of my wringer are designated by A and'the front piece by B, which is attached to the side pieces by any suitable means. The' sides A and front B are indiscriminately perforated, as shown at O C, to permit the egress of water from the mop while being pressed, as hereinafter described. The sides A have downwardly-projecting portions a a and near the ends thereof inwardlyprojecting lugs or teats a a.
The back D is held between two strips d d, perforated near their bottom ends at d d to receive the lugs or teats a a, while the bottom D' is fastened between said strips 01 d and to the bottom edge of the back D and serves to limit the downward movement of the mop when the wringer is'open to receive it as well as act as a water-guide when the mop is being pressed.
Journaled in the side pieces A is a shaft E, on the center of which is fixed a cam F, adapted to bear against the back piece D and press the mop between the front B and said back piece D. The edge of the cam F that bears against the back piece D has an outwardlyflaring edge f, while the back piece D has attached thereto a cleat G with a slot g, shaped to receive the flaring edge f above described, the whole being similar in construction to a dovetail joint, except that the parts are made to not fit snugly.
The purpose of the construction last above described is to aiford means for opening the receptacle after the mop is pressed.
H represents a lever fastened by any suitable means to the end of the shaft E.
I I represent slots cut into the bottom of the side pieces A A to hold the device on a bucket.
The operation is as follows: Place the device on the edge of the bucket by means of the slots I I. After wetting the mop place it in the receptacle, and by swinging the lever toward the interior of the pail the cam F will push the back D against the front B, squeezing the water out through the holesO into the bucket. When the mop is wrung out, push the lever outwardly and the back D will be returned to its normal position and the mop may be removed.
I do not wish to be limited to the exact construction' shown in'the drawings or described herein, as the same may be altered somewhat without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim is- 1. In a mop-wringer, a perforated box portion, an imperforate presser portion pivoted to said box portion, a water-guide fixed to said presser portion, and a cam adapted to reciprocate said presser portion, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a mop-wringer, a box portion, a presser portion pivoted thereto, a water-guide secured to said presser portion, a cam adapted to oscillat-e said presser portion, a flaring edge on said cam, and a dovetail slot on said presser portion to receive the flaring edge on the cam, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a mop-wringer, a perforated box portion, an imperforate presser portion pivoted thereto, a water-guide secured to said presser portion, acam to oscillate said presser portion, a flaring edge on said cam, and a dovetail slot on said presser portion to receive the flaring edge on the cam,substantia1lyasshown presser-board to receive the flaring edge on and described. 7 V the cam,substantia1lyasshownand described. 10
4. In a mop-Wringer, a perforated box por- In testimony whereof I hereto affix my sigtion, amok-shaft journaledtherein, apressernature in the presence of two witnesses. 5 board pivoted in said box portion, a water- JOHN VON KANEL.
