.. Speci.cation of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. ,'16, 1918.
.Applicaticn led October 7, 1916. Serial No. 124,406.
To all whom 'it may concern Be it knownj that 1, NATHAN STONE, a citizen of theUnited States, and a Yresident of .the city ofChicago, countyof Cook, and State'of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Mirror-#Frames and'V the like, of which the following is aspecication My` invention relates to vimprovements in .supports for mirror'frames andthe like,
deviceof this character which will be-of ldurable, and economicall construction, .one which maybereadily and 'easily Iadjusted to operative; condition or to collapsedcondition topermit of ready storage orship ment, anda furtherone which will be highly -Y Jefiicient in use. 'Other'.objects 'will appear and hereinafter.
The inventionconsists inthe combinations and arranfrements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
vThe invention `will be best understood by` reference to thev accompanying drawings forming a .part ofl this speciication, and in Fig. 7, Va partially sectional. lfront elevation of still another form ofthe construe` tion.
The :device comprises a comparatively flatv base consisting of a metallic shell which is formedof upper'and-lower parts 1 and 2.
vThe peripheral portions ofthe sections 1 and 2=are overlapped, and withinfsaidshell is a filling of cement and sand, or other suitable comparatively heavy plastic material. In the ,manufacture of the device, the-base parts 1 and 2 are irst 'filled with plastic ma- -ing unbalanced and .toppling' over.
terial, the same being permitted lto\. rest,4
v until the plastic material .has .thoroughly dri-ed and set. When. .the filling .has thus driedand set the base formed .ismeXceptionally solifland heavy which is of` particular advantagegin .that the same. adds stability to the construction, the mirror frameor other frame which may be supported yabove the base, beingpermitted to be adjusted to any position without fear of the device becom- Projecting centrall .throughfthe base is bolt 4l with which `cooperates a nut k5 ,..the.
base section 2 being counter-sunk, .as seen, to accommodate said nut. rlhe upper-,endof bolt afserves as ameans offasteningfor a,r
substantially .'U-.shaped `connecting 4 member 6, saidibolt passing centrally through -the bight portionv of member 6, as seen,inthe several views. Interposed between said member 6 and the. upper sideof they base is;
a ferrule or .washer 7,. said .'ferrule andthe member 6 beingclenched'to the bolt t so as .to rigidly connectysaid partstogether, thus serving. asa means of holding said bolt vagainst rotation in the placing of nut 5.
thereon. v
Arranged abovethe member 6 is a lsubstantiallys U-shapedv supporting member 8 lhaving aA 4substantially rectangular proj ec- Ationror tongue 9 at its lower or bight por,-y tion which fits snugly l.between thel sides: of
member 6. Said proj ection 9 and member 6 pin -10 which passes through said parts, as
.clearly vshown vin Figs. 1 ,andA 2, knurled .nuts 11 threaded onthe ends of said pivot Ipin Aaffording means for clamping the parts .together in orderto lock the support member 8 in positions ofpivotal adjustment. A .sleeve 12 arranged upon pivot pin 10 be; .tween ,the sides of projection 9..obviously coperates with ,the-.nuts 11 in thev clamping ofthe supporting member 8 to the member 6.
The member 8 serves as aisupportfora frame .13 ofa mirror or the like, V.which is pivotally connected at dibgammatically op- .,-posite points to the ends of ,f said member are pivotally connected byumeans of a pivot 8 as at 14. lVith the construction set forth it will be seen that the frame 13 may be readily adjusted about a horizontal pivotal axis relative to the member 8 in order to position the mirror in any position desired. Also the member 8 may be pivotally adjusted to facilitate such positioning of the mirror and if desired said member 8 may be swung all the way down to horizontal position in order to collapse the construction into compact form for vconvenient storage or shipment.
The form shown in Figs. 3 and 4 is the same as that as above described except that projection 9 of the frame 8 is connected with the member 6 by means of pivot members 15 which pivotally and slidably engage with the elongated slots 16 formed in the sides -of member 6. Upon the sides of projection 9 are also provided laterally projecting studs 17 adapted for engagement with notches 18 provided in the upper ends of the sides of member 6. The construction is such, as will be seen, that the member 8 may be pivotally adjusted by simply iirst raising the same in order to disengage the studs 17 from the Y `notches 18. Said studs thus serve as a means for holding the frame 8 in upright position, the construction, however, being capable of being` collapsed for convenient storage or.
shipment as above mentioned in connection with the forms shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The construction shown in Figs. 5V and 6 is the same as that heretofore described except f ber 8 to dislodge the depressions Q0 from the depressions 21.
In the form shown in Fig. 7 the interj mediate connecting member 6 is dispensed with, simplifying the construction to this extent. collapsible as is the case with the other three forms although the frame 13 is capable of pivotal adjustment about the points 14.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred forms of construction for carrying my invention into effect, these are capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit o-f the invention. I, therefore do not wish to be limited to the preciseV details of construction set forth,
Vbut desire to avail myself of such .variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
This construction, however, is notv Having described my invention what claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

supporting element; an adjustable pivotal connection between said supporting element and said base, said connection comprising a substantially U-.shaped member connected with said base; a connecting portion at the lower side of said supporting element engaging between the sides of said U-shaped member and pivotally connected therewith; and means coperating with said sides of said U-shaped member for locking said supporting element in positions of said pivotal adjustment, substantially as described.
2. A frame support comprising a base; a substantially U-shaped supporting element; an adjustable pivotal connection between said supportingelement and said base, said connection comprising a substantially U- shaped member connected with said base; a substantially rectangular projection at the bight of said supporting element fitting between the sides of said U-shaped member;- and a horizontally extending pivot pin passing through and pivotally connecting said projection and said sides of U-shaped member, substantially as described.
3. A frame support comprising a base; a substantially U-shaped supporting element; an adjustable pivotal connection between said supporting element and said base, said connection comprising a substantially U- shaped member connected with said base; a substantially rectangular projection Vat the bight of said supporting element tting'between the sides of U-shaped member; a horizontally extending pivot pin passing through and pivotally connecting said projection vand said sides of said U-shaped ymember;
and means for locking said supporting element in positions of pivotal adjustment, substantially as described. Y
4. A frame support comprising a base; a supporting element; an adjustable pivotal connection between said supporting element and said base, said connection comprising a substantially U-shaped member arranged above said base; a connecting element passing through and connecting said base and the bight portion of said U-shaped member; and a pivotal connection between'said U- shaped member and the lower portion of said supporting element, substantially as described. 5. A frame support comprising a base; a
supporting element; an adjustable pivotal connection between said supporting element and said base; said connection comprising a substantially U-shaped member arranged Y above said base; a connecting element passing through and connecting said base and the bight portion of said U-shaped member;
