COMBINED TOY AND' ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 16, 1918.
Application filed May 23, 1917. Serial No. 170,460.
1 b all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, HISATARO KIRIYAMA, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at El Monte, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented Combined Toys and Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and novel improvements in toys, and its objects are to provide a toy cheap to manufacture, to com bine with elements attractive and pleasing in appearance, a means for advertising, and to provide a harmless toy affording amusement to children;
The construction and arrangement of the parts will now be described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings: Figure 1 shows a toy embodying my invention and having a tufted staff with suspended ball; and Figs. 2, 3, 4, are modified forms of the invention, some of the parts therein being in section.
Referring to the drawings: Staff 4 is preferably made of bamboo, and provided with a variously colored feathered tuft 5. To a depending cord 6 is attached an inflated rubber ball 7, colored one-half a light color, and one-half a dark color. Cardboard cups 8, protect the ball, and contribute to the attractive appearance of the toy. Beneath the ball is suspended a gilded bead 9, and therebeneath, the tassel 10. The ball, and cup protectors may be inscribed with any advertising legends. Other pendant ornaments may be substituted for the bead and tassel.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 2, staff 11 is provided with a banner 12. The coniform protectors 13 and banner 14, are secured to ball 15, suspended from the staff 11. Air valve 16 is provided to inflate the ball. All elements may be provided with advertising inscriptions.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 3, the air valve 17 is located in the hollow wooden staff 18, and the ball 19 is attached to the staff, being inflated by blowing in air at the upper end of the staff. The valve 17 consists of a constricted orifice 20, which is nor.
mally covered by a disk 21, the disk being retained over the orifice by the air pressure. When the ball becomes deflated, the disk 21 1s retained in position adjacent to the orifice by a wire pin 22, transversely extending through the staff. The protector 23 is smaller than, and telescopes within the pro tector 24, and the ball 19, when deflated, may be inclosed by the protectors. A clamp wire hook 25 is secured to the ball fabric, and the pendant ornament 26 is attached thereto.
In Fig. 4:, the ball inflating tube 27 is con stricted to a small orifice, covered by a valve disk 28, which is retained in position by an elastic band 29. p
All parts of the toy are variously colored, and the elements where adaptable, may be inscribed with advertising legends. The toy constructed in this manner, will afl'ord considerable amusement to children, and at the same time affords a convenient and attractive advertising medium.
What is claimed is:
1. The combination with a wig-wag staff, of a cord depending from the end thereof, an inflatable ball suspended by the cord, an ornament depending from the ball, and telescoping protectors attached to the ball concentric with the cord and ornament, said ball being inclosed by the telescoping protectors when deflated.
2. The combination with a stall and a flexible depending cord, of an inflatable ball attached to the cord, a pendant ornament attached to the ball in opposed relation to the cord, and protectors for the ball secured in opposed relation by the cord and pendant ornament, said protectors telescoping to inclose the ball in collapsed position.
3. A staff, an inflated ball suspended therefrom, a pendant attached to the ball in opposed relation to the staff, a protector for the ball interposed between the ball and staif, and another protector for the ball interposed between the ball and pendant, said protectors telescoping to inclose the ball when deflated, and forming with the ball a floating ornam at when i fla d.
4:. The combination With an ornamental and inflatable ball, of telescoping protectors 1917.
