ARC LAMP ATTACHMENT.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 11. um.

INVENTOR WITNESSES BY 5m ATTORNEY UNITED @TATES PATENT OFFICE.-
J'AMES R. PRATT, 0F DENISON, TEXAS.
ARC-LAMP ATTACHMENT.
Application filed February 17, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs R. PRATT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denison, in the county of Grayson and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvement in Arc-Lamp Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in.
thereby enabling the lamp to be operated in the event of defect in the carbon or electrode.
It is also my purpose to provide an attachment of the class described, which will embody the desired features of simplicity, efficiency and durability, and which may be connected and securely fastened within the casing of the arc lamp in the clamp of the electrode holder.
\Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth and falling within scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawing:-
Figure 1 is a view in ide elevation of an attachment constructed in accordance with the present invention, an incandescent lamp being shown connected thereto.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view in elevation showing the attachment in position in a conventional form of clamp.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, 1 designates a support, which, in the present instance, embodies a vertical shank 2 having the lower end formed with a block 3 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 2, 1918.
Serial No. 149,279.
opposite from the shank 2 and shaped to fit into the clamp of the electrode holder on the lower end of the are lamp as shown in Fig. 3. The upper end of the shank 2 is formed with a collar f that is offset from the shank, and disposed above the block 3 and formed on the upper edge of the collar l is an integral upwardly projecting nipple 5 exteriorly screw threaded to receive one end of an incandescent lamp socket 6, and thread ed or otherwise secured in the other end of the socket 6 is an incandescent lamp 7. The current carrying wires are led through the collar l and the nipple 5 and connected with the respective binding posts of the socket 6 so that the current may be conveyed to the filament of the lamp 7 and the latter may be energized.
In practice, it is only necessary to remove the carbon holder and the electrode holder and insert the block or base 3 of the support 1. in th clamp of the electrode holder. In this position of the attachment, the lamp 7 is held in proper position relatively to the reflecto so that the lamp will be properly focused.
\Vhile I have herein hown and described the preferred form of my invention by way of illustration, I wish it to be understood that I do not limit or confine myself to the precise details of construction herein described and delineated, as modification and variation may be made within the scope of the claim and without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim .An attachment for are lamps comprising a vertical shank, a block at one end of the shank adapted to engage in the clamp of the electrode holder, a collar on the upper end of said shank otlset therefrom, an exteriorly threaded nipple on said collar and projecting upwardly therefrom, and an incandescent lamp socket on said nipple adapted to hold an incandescent lamp within the influence of the reflector on the arc lamp.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JAMES R. PRATT.
