Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 25, 1914. Serial No. 858,462.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL SNYDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Camden, Camden county, New Jersey, have invented a new and, useful Improvementin Supports or Holders for Lamp Globes'or Reflectors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- F igure 1 is a view, partlv in side elevation and partly in section, showing my improved holder or support applied to one form of lamp. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the holder or support removed from the lamp. Fig. 3 is a side View showing the support or holder attached to a'diiferent form of lamp, and Fig. 4E is a side view showing the parts partially separated to permit of the removal or insertion of the globe or reflector.
My invention is particularly applicable to holders or supports for the globes or reflectors used in indirect or semi-indirect systoms of lighting. Heretofore it has been necessary to provide suspending means of one form or another for these globes or reflectors and by which they may be directly supported from overhead.
My invention is designed to provide means of simple. and eflective character by means of which a globe or reflector can be readily attached to and supported by the lam itself.
T e nature of my invention will be best understood'by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which I have shown the preferred embodiment thereof and which will now be described, it being premised, however, that various changes can be made in the details of construction and arrangement of the parts within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
In Fig. 1 I have shown my invention applied to what is commonly known as an. inverted arc lamp. In this figure the numeral 2 designates the. casing of the lamp having the usual shade or globe holding portion 3. In accordance with my invention ll provide a neck-shaped metal piece or ring 4; which is adapted to be inserted within drawings T have illustrated a spring wire holder 5 of well known character having the releasing or handle portions 6. Secured to this ring 4 are a number of radial members 7 which are threaded at their outer ends and which extend through openings in a ring 8 of the proper diameter to receive andsupport the bowl-shaped globe or reflector 9, the latter being provided with a supporting flange 10 for that purpose. This globe or reflector may be of opaque or "translucent material such as isemployed in semi-indirect lighting; or it may be of metal, such as is employed in direct lighting. The holes in the ring 8 through which the members 7 extend are preferably enlarged so as to give v some play to said members, the members being secured byremovable nuts 11.
Fig. 3 shows my invention applied to a single inverted burner lamp of the well known Reflex type. The construction and arrangement is substantially the same as in the form first described.
When it is desired to remove the globe or reflector, this can be readily done by releasing the ring 4: and removing it from the expensive in its construction; which does not require the use of depending supporting rods or chains; which will permit of the ready removal of the globe or reflector; and in which the parts are of such character and arrangement as to cause a minimum amount of shadows.

A globe or reflector support for incandescent gas lamps comprising an upper ring member having an external seat for the globe retaining means of the lamp, another ring of larger diameter below the first named ring and having internal seats for the globe or reflector, spaced members connecting the two rings, and means whereby said rings may be separated from each other Patented ltlla r. so, rare.

The combination with an inverted ineandescent gas. lamp'having a depending globe supporting gallery or flange, of a ring member adapted to fit within said gallery or flange and to be held therein, a lower and larger diameter globe supporting ring below the first named ring, and a plurality of spaced members connecting the two rings, said connections having a, loose connection with the lower ring whereby the two rings may be separated sufliciently to permit of the removal of the globe backwardly through the lower ring,'substantially as described.
3. A globe or reflector support for use in indirect or semi-indirect lighting systems, comprising an upperring member adapted to it the globe retaining means of an in verted gas lamp and having seating means for the shade securing devices of such lamp,

4. A globe or reflector support for use in indirect or semi-indirect lighting systems, comprising an upper ring member adapted to fit the globe retaining means of an inverted gas lamp and having seating means for the shade securing devices of such lamp, a second and larger ring below the first named ring and having a globe or reflector supporting flange, and a plurality of spaced rods connecting the two rings and detachably' engaged with the lower ring, one of said rods having a loose engagement with the lower ring to form a hinge connection, substantially as described.
