Be it EkllOWll that l, EDMUND F. MoULD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Holders for Globes or Reflectors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

his invention relates to supports or holders for globes or reflectors and more especially to supports or holders of the type that are formed or associated with electric lamp fixtures.

It is the general purpose of the invention to provide a fixture of this type and a globe or reflector with a supporting device which is extremely efiicient. in operation, convenient and easy of application, and which will firmly and securelysupport the globe or re- Hector through and in conjunction with the coilperating features of construction of the fixture, the globe or reflector, and the interposed supporting device, the said device being arranged to engage the opposed portions of the fixture and opposed portions of the globe or reflector.

Generally speaking, the invention may be defined further as consisting of the combinations of elements and parts illustrated in he drawings forming apart hereof and embodied in the claims attached hereto.

In the drawings Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view taken through a globe or reflector and fixture showing the interposed and cooperating supporting device in position. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view corresponding to line 22 in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a sectional detail of a modified form of supporting device, showing its application to a slightly modified construction of holder and globe or reflector.

Describing by reference characters the various parts illustrated herein, 1 denotes an electric lamp fixtureadapted to receive and support the socket or receptacle of an incandescent lamp. This fixture is provided, near and a short distance above the bottom thereof, with an outwardly projecting bead 2, providing an inwardly open ing annular seat. \Vith the parts constructed as described. the operation will be as follows: The locking device is so constructed that it tends to expand and bring the shoulders 11 into engagement with the adjacent edges of the slot 7. When so expanded, the opposed portions 12 rest within the seat 2. The shoulders 11 and the portion 13 opposite thereto project into the diametrically opposed slots 7 and 8. When it is desired to apply a globe or reflector to the fixture, it is vnecessary only to grasp the fingers 10, thereby compressing the wire loop into the inwardly projecting groove or seat carried by the neck of the lobe'or reflector. By the construction disclosed herein, the globe or reflector is firmly supported from the holder by the engagement of the outwardly pro-, jecting portions 12 of the locking device with the annular seat formed within the bead 2 and the simultaneous engagement of the shoulders 11 and the intermediate portion 13 of said device with the slots 7 and 8 respectively.

In Fig. 3 there is illustrated a modification of the invention shown in the preceding figures, such modification consisting in forming the locking device from an angular spring wire, preferably square or rectangular in section, with a correspondingly shaped seat in the fixture and in the groove 'or recess in the neck of the reflector. In this view, 14 denotes the body of the spring wire, 15 the angular annular seat formed in the fixture and 16 the complementary seat or recess formed in the neck ofthe reflector.

Having described my invention, what I claim is:

1. In a device of the character described,

- the combination of a shade holder having an inwardly opening seat, a globe or reflector having a portion adapted to be fitted within said holder and having an outwardly opening groove arranged complementarily to said seat and provided with substantially diametrically opposed slots, and a locking device consisting of a spring wire interposed between the globe or reflector and the holder and having inwardly projecting end portions adapted to extend through one of said slots and into the interior of the globe or reflector and a portion adapted to extend into the other slot, said device being also provided with portions adapted, bythe expansion of said wire, to project into the seat formed in the holder, substantially as set forth.

2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a shade holder having a seat, a globe or reflector having a portion adapted to be fitted to said holder and having a seat arranged complementarily to the former seat, the inner of said seatsbeing provided with substantially diametrically opposed slots, and a locking device consisting of a spring interposed between the globe or reflector and the holder and having inwardly turned end portions adapted to ex tend through one or? said slots and an in wardly oflset portion adapted to extend-into the other slot. the combination of a holder having, near the lower end thereof, an annular inwardly opening seat, a globe or reflector having a neck adapted to be fitted within the lower the holder and having a pluralityof portions thereof adapted, by the expansion of the spring, to enter said seat and also having inwardly turned ends projecting through one of said slots into the interior of'the globe or reflector, said device also having an inwardly projecting portion bent from said wire and adapted to project into the other slot.

4. In a device of the character described, the combination of a hollow holder having, near the lower end thereof an inwardly facing seat, a globe or reflector having a neck adapted to be fitted into the lower end of the holder and having an outwardly facing seat said neck being provided with a plurality of slots intersecting said outwardly facing seats, and a locking device comprising a spring loop interposed between the neck of the globe and the holder and having a plurality of portions thereof adapted, by the expansion of the spring, to enter said inwardly facing seats and also having inturned ends projecting through one of said slots whereby said loop may be constricted into said outwardly facing seat, said device also having an inwardly projecting portion projecting into the other slot.

5.
