Description

C. H. LAMOREAUX. Improvement in Clothes-Dryers.
Patented April 23, 1872 Scale 1 inch to 1100i.

PATENT OFFICE.
GHAUNOEY H. LAMOUREUX, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT lN CLQTHES-DRIE RS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,062, dated April 23, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAUNCEY H. LAMoU- REUX, of the city of New York, State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Clothes-Han ging Apparatus; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the invention. Fig. 2 is avertical view of the Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal cross-section of the invention on an enlarged scale.
My invention relates to a clothes-han gin g apparatus; and consists in the arran gem ent of two or more horizontal grooved carrying-wheels, set in suitable frames for bearings, with an endless cord, which will be capable of transferring any clothes that may be hung upon the cord from one point to another in the length of the said cord or apparatus with all of which is combined a roller so arranged with the carrying wheel or wheels as to act as a guard, and be capable of preventing the clothes from being disturbed when passing around the grooved wheels.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use myinvention, I will proceed to describe it in reference to the drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, the same letters indicating like parts.
In the drawing, A A represent horizontal carrying-wheels, which are grooved, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, to receive and operate the cord on which the clothes are to be hung. The said carryin g-wheels are secured to the vertical axles or shafts b, having their bearings in the frameB, which fiameI prefer-to make of metal,
with a form substantially as shown in Fig. 3,
which form of frame will firmly support the wheel A, and not endanger its contact with any clothes't-ha-t might be hung on the cord.
If the apparatus is to be supported by posts or poles, as in Fig. 1, I would prefer to make with the said frames B the sockets G, into which the top ends of the said posts would enter to secure the said frames in a fixed and firm position for supporting the whole a-ppa ratus; but, if the apparatus is to be used from a side of a building I would dispense with the socket O, substitute for them brackets or other by an endless cord, D, which enters the grooves c c, and is supported by the flanges a a, as shown. To keep the clothes from contact with the post or building, when passed around the wheels A, I use the guard E consisting of the roller 6, supported in the frame 6, shown in Figs. 1 and 3, back of the wheels and between the same and their sockets or equivalents.
Having described myinvention, whatI claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the grooved carryingwheels A A, frames B, provided with sockets (l, or their equivalents, endless cord D, and guard E, when all are constructed and arran ged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
