Be it known that I, JosnrI-r L. LEVY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Pockets for Garments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to garments and particularly to a pocket in mens garments used for containing a watch, pocket book or valuables, and the object of this invention is to provide a pocket for containing the above or other articles with a minimum chance of loss by theft or otherwise.

With this object, and such other objects as may herein appear, in view, the invention consists in the improved safety pocket, the construction, arrangement and combination of the parts which will be hereinafter fully described and specifically claimed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which,

Throughout the various views of the drawings, similar reference characters desig.a nate similar parts.

In the preferred embodiment of my invention, shown in Figs. 1 and 2, 1 indicates the body of the garment in which I have shown a pocket 2 secured to the garment by means of the stitches 3. I do not limit my invention to this exact manner offorming a pocket as the pocket may be formed in any of the well known ways without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Above the pocket 2, I provide a closure iap 4, which may be secured in place by the stitches 5, and which is adapted to close the opening to the pocket. This flap 4 has its free end divided into a pair of supplemental flaps; an inner supplemental flap 7 and an outer supplemental flap 6. The closure flap may be divided into the supplemental flaps in any desired manner, and I have carried this out by means of the addition of the flap 7, the a-p 6 being merely acontinuation of the closure flap 4. These flaps 6 and 7 are adapted to embrace the pocket 2 adjacent its edge between them as shown.

A thief will attempt to gain access to the pocket by unbuttoning the flap 6 from the button 8 and will then attempt to lift the Hap to thrust his hand into the pocket. As the Hap 7 is still secured to the pocket 2 by means of the button 8 and button hole 9, the lifting of the flap 6 will be felt by the wearer of the garment. Or if the thief attempts to thrust his hand into the pocket after merely unbuttoning the flap 6 his hand will abut against the flap 7 and entry to the pocket will be thus prevented.

In Fig. 3 I have shown a modification of my invention, wherein I have provided the pocket portion 2 with divided ends, forming aps 11 and 12. To the inner flap 12 is secured a button 14 which passes through a button hole 15 formed in the closure flap 16. The outer flap 11 is provided with a button hole 17 for engaging the button 14 after it has passed through the button hole 15 in the closure. l

A still further modification of my invention is disclosed in Fig. 4 wherein I have shown the inner supplemental iap 7 provided with a button 18 in addition to the button 8 heretofore mentioned. This button 18 is adapted to pass through a button hole 19 in the pocket 2 and is covered by the Hap 6 and therefore not discernible from the exterior. A thief desiring to gain access to the pocket may attempt to cut off the button 8 which is the only button discernible on the exterior of the pocket but the pocket will still be closed by means of the button 18 and button holes 19 and an attempt by him to lift the closure iiap or to thrust his hand into the pocket will be readily felt by the wearer of the garment.

From the foregoing, it is obvious that my invention is not to be restricted to the exact embodiments herein shown, but is broad enough to cover all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claims.

/Vhat I claim is:

l. In a garment, a pocket, a closure flap for the same, the Closure flap being divided into a pair of supplemental iaps, one of said supplemental flaps adapted to extendon the inner side of the pocket, the other supplemental ap extending .on the outer side of the pocket, said flaps adapted to embrace the upper end of the pocket between them', and attachingl means on one of said supplemental iaps to detach'ab'ly secure it to the pocket and the other supplemental iap.
