Description

. A. e. KENT- CLOTHES DRIER.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 23 I917- Pafianted Mar. 1.9 ,-191s..
ARTHUR G. KENT, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
CLOTHES-DRIER.
reeaeoe.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented an. in, 1918.
Application filed July 23, Serial No. 182,819.
of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character including a plurality of pivotally supported arms m'ounted for movement in a vertical direction and wherein the pivoted end portion of each" of the arms'is capable of verti-v cal adjustment independently of the remainder of the arms.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a device ofth'is general character which includes a supporting plate provided with an elongated trackway or guide rod and with which is slidably engaged a bracket carrying a supporting arni and wherein said bracket is provided with meansfor locking the same at different positions longitudinally of the trackway or guide rod.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangemcnt of the several'partsof my improved cl thes drier w ere n e ai i PQ tant advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and other wise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein- Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a drier constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a view in front elevation of the device as herein disclosed;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view partly in elevation and partly in section illustrating in detail the co-action between a guide rod and bracket as herein disclosed and illustrating a fragment of a supporting bar in lowered or operative position; and
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view in perspective illustrating one of my improved brackets as herein set forth and a co-acting portion of the guide rod.
As'disclosed' in the accompanying drawings 1 denotes an elongated plate adapted to be supported adjacent a stove or other heat generating unit and said plate is provided adjacent its'opp osito ends with the brackets 2. Interposed between the brackets 2 and supported thereby are the guide rods 3 arranged substantially in parallelism and positioned a predetermined distance in advance of the plate 1. 1
Slidably engaged with each of the guide rods 3 is a bracket'B and as herein disclosed said bracket B comprises arear plate Thaiing its upper end portion provided with an outwardly directed tongue 5 at substantiall right angles to the plate 4 and which provided with an opening 6 through'whi'chthe rod 3 is directed. The opposite orlower end portion of the plate 4; is provided with an elongated tongue 7 returnedupon itself on a predetermined curvature and provided with openings 8 through which the-rod 3 is also directed. lhe free end portion 9 of the tongue affords a finger piece. Tlieelongated tongue 7 possesses -'suflicient inherentresiliency as to cause the walls "or the Qpenings'S to frictionally enga e'the rod' 3'i'n such a manner as 'to effectually hold the bracket B against movement longitudinally of'tlie rod 3. lVhen it is desired to move the bracket '13 along the rod 3 the finger-piece 9 is'forced upwardly which results in the openings 8 being so alined as to permit the bracket 13 to be freely moved upon the rod 3.
The bracket B also embodies the forwardly directed side plates 10 which extend a predetermined distance above the plate 4 and which have their lower edges defined by the inwardly directed flanges 11. EX-
tending between the side plates 10 is an end portion of a bar 12 which is pivotally engaged with said plates 10 by the transverse pin 14. The pin 1a is so positioned relative to the flange 11 as to cause a longitudinal edge of the bar 12 to rest upon the flanges 11 when the bar 12 is in substantially a horizontal position so that said bar will be maintained in said position when desired for use. When the bar 12 is not in use the same is swung upwardly into substantially a vertical position and is automatically maintained in such position by the frictional contact therewith of the side plates 10. The outer margins of the plates 10 have their upper From' the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a clothes drier constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and'facility with which it may be assembled and operated and it will also be obvious that my invention 7 is susceptible of some change and modification without materially departing from the principle and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim: 1. A clothes drier comprising a guideway, a bracket slidably engaged with the guideway and provided with means for normally holding the same against movement longitudinally ofthe guideway, a bar pivotally engaged with the bracket, said bracket being provided with means co-acting' with the bar for limiting the same against movement beyond substantially the horizontal, said bracket being also provided with means for holding the bar substantially vertical.
2. A device ofthe character described including a bracket provided with side plates, the lower margins of the side plates being Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Eatents,
defined by inwardly directed flanges, a bar interposed between the plates and'pivotally supported thereby, said bar contacting with the inwardly directed flanges when at its limit of movement in one direction, said side plates frictionally engaging the bar for maintaining. the bar at substantially its limit of movement in an opposite direction.
3. A device of the character described comprising a guide rod, a bracket provided with a perforate tongue through which the guide rod is disposed and with a second elongated resillent tongue returned upon itself on a predetermined curvature, said tongue being provided with openings through which the guide rod is disposed, the free end portion of said elongated tongue 7 serving as a finger piece, and'a bar operatively engaged with the bracket.
4. A device of the character described including a bracket provided with side plates,
the lower margins of the side plates being defined by inwardly directed flanges, a bar interposed between the plates and pivotally '7 upper marginal portion of the side plates being outwardly inclined.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature inthe presence of two witnesses.
