Be it known that I, IRA HUNTEE, a citizenv of the United States, residing at Carlisle, in the county of Nicholas and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand-Stamps; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear,

and exact description of the invention, such' as will` enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. j Y Y VMy invention relates to hand stamps and more particularly to that class of stamps which are designed to be used on coupons,y

tickets and the like havinga number of detachable portions.

The principal object ofthis invention isprovide a hand stamp of this character which is so constructed that it may be readily grasped in the hand of an operator and gripped therein to manipulate the stamp. v

Another object of my invention is to provide a stamp of this character in which means are provided to guide tickets or coupons below the stamping member in such a manner as to be most efficiently operated thereupon. n

A Ystill further object of my invention is to provide a stamp of this character which is of novel construction and of a novel operation and which will be cheap to manufacture, easy to operate and most etlicient in effect. f

With these and other objects in view, which vwill appear from the description, my Vinvention resides in the novel combination,

construction and arrangement of parts to be more fully hereinafter described and claimedl and taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which form a part ofthis applicationand in which:

Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, my improved stamp comprises a pair of handle members 1 and 2 respectively which are formed with straightL longitudinal side edges and curved backs'as clearly illustrated in thefaccompanying drawings, whereby they may be readily engaged by the hand` of an operator and graspedtherein for manipulation of the stamp in a manner to be hereinafter described.,v One of the handle memberswhich is designated as 2 isprovided with a longitudinally disposed chamber 3,l

Arms -5 are provided at opposite ends of the handle member 2 and extend `laterally therefrom in' parallel relationvand are provided with downwardly extending slots 6 therein'adjacent their upper `ends as clearlyillustrated in Figs. 2 and 5 fora purpose to be hereinafter described. j

Slidabl positioned in the :frame 7 is a guide mem er Qwhich is formed with a top and bottomwall 10 and 11 respectively shaped to conform to the configuration of the frame 7 in which it is received and provided with outwardly and divergingly extending lips 12 projecting outwardly from the side or the frame adjacent the open side of the ink pad receiving chamber, as clearly' illustrated in the accompanying drawings. This construction provides aguide member in which coupons or tickets to be stamped may be'inserted between the divergingly en tending lips 12 and will thereupon be gulded into the body of the stamp so as to be eiliciently disposed therein beneath the stamp carried on the other handle member as will be hereinafter described. n The handle member 1 when in assembled position is disposed in alinement with the member 2 and is provided at its ends with a pair vof laterally parallel extending arms 13' which are adapted to be engaged in slidable relation against the arms 5 and are extended inwardly toward the handle member 2. tending longitudinally between the arms 13 and mounted therein is a shaft 14 having its ends 15 projecting slightly beyond the arms 13 for engagement in the slots 6 formed in the wall 5 of the handle member 2. This arrangement serves to provide a guiding connection between the arms 5 and 13, whereby lateral displacement of the handle members is prevented and the lower edges of the slots 6 are so disposed as to provide an effectual stop for the projecting ends 15 of the shaft 14 which will limit the movement of the two handle members toward each other.

At spaced intervals on the shaft 14 are mounted a series of changeable dating stamps 1G of the ordinary type and suitably secured at their upper portions to the handle `member 1 so that when the handle members are gripped together in the hand of an 'operator, the dating stamps 16 will be forced against the coupon or ticket which is inserted in the guide member 9, whereby to effectually stampthe same. K

As a means Jfor normally holding the dating stamps 16 out of engagement with the inking pad and raised above the ticket carrying frame, 1 provide a pair of spring tongues 17 at each end of the stamp suitably f secured at one end to the handle member 2 and extending at their upper ends under the adjacent portions of the shai't lll to provide a spring support therefor Vand which will normally tend to force the two handle members apart. As a means of forming a guide between the slidable arms of the two members, l'provide stop'members on each of the arms 5 which comprise strips of metal 18 secured on the outer faces of the arms 5 bent inwardly toward one another at the upper receive therethrough lugs or fingers y21 Y formed on the adjacent ends of the handle member 1 to provide a means of guiding the two arms when they are slidably engaged and to prevent lateral displacement of the handle members.

ln the operation of my improved stamp, it is merely necessary to insert a ticket or coupon in the guide 9 and to grasp the handle members in the hand and squeeze them together against the action of the spring '17 whereby an impression will be made upon the tickets or coupons upon all sections o' the same simultaneously. The dating stamps are of the changeable type and any desired date may be set as required. The clips 19 formed on the arms 5 provide a means for holding therein a plurality of the cards or coupons tok be stamped so that they may be withdrawn and used as desired. The details of the operation of my invention are clear from the description and twill not be necessary here to elaborate upon the same. l desire it to be understood that 1 do not wish to limit myself specifically to the details oi' construction as described herein, but that any construction may be used and that any changes may be made in the minor parts thereof as will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

A device of the character described comprising a. pair of handle members, one of said members having a series of simultaneously operated dating stamps thereon, an inking pad carried by the other member, slidably engaged guide arms projecting froml the ends of said members, a spring between said members to normally hold them apart, and a guide between said members to receive va plurality of articles for simultaneous stamping.
