PIE-MARKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 771,192, dated September 27, 1904. Application filed February 6,1904- Serial No. 192.391. (N0 model.)
T0 (1 whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO L. VVEIMAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manayunk, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pie-Markers,' of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a die and dieholder adapted to be used in marking pies with an initial letter to designate the material of which the pie is composed, or the de vice may be employed to place on the pie any desired character or mark to designate the firm or company baking the pies so marked.
The device consists of the novel featuresof construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, particularly pointed out in the claims, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved pie-marker. Fig. 2 is a perspective View showing the die-plate detached from the holder. Fig. 3 is a view showing the holder partly in end elevation and partly in section, the die-plate being shown in position in section, the manner of removing the dieplate being shown in dotted lines.
In the drawings, A represents the dieholder, and B the die-plate. The holder A comprises the sides A, the connecting top piece A and the parallel connecting-bars A Adjacent the lower edge of one of the side pieces A and parallel to the said lower edge is a slot A*, and the opposite side piece is cut away along the lower edge on the inner side, as shown at A To this last-mentioned side of the holder and adjacent the lower edge of same are secured on its outer face parallel lugs A, between which are pivoted a springactuated clamping member A one end of which projects over the lower edge of the side to which it is secured.
The die-plate B has formed on its under or front face the letter or other character B, with which the pie is to be marked. One of the side edges of this plate is cut away on its front face, as shown at B leaving a reduced portion adapted to fit in the slot A. The opposite side of the die-plate is cut out on its rear side, as shown at B leaving a marginal portion of reduced width adapted to fit in the cut-out portion A It will be noted that the sides of the die-plate are therefore oppositely cut away. To place the die in the holder, the side having the cut-away portion B is placed in the slot A, the upper end of the clamp A is depressed, and the remaining side of the die-plate is fitted into the cut-out portion A of the holder and the clamp released, thus locking the die-plate in position.
A handle A is carried by the top piece A and the manner of using the device will be obvious.
The die-plate is prevented from horizontal movement by reason of the fact that the cutout portion A and the slot or recess A both stop short of the ends of the holder or the vertical edges of the side pieces.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A device of the kind described comprising a holder having parallel sides, one of, said sides being longitudinally recessed on its inner face adjacent its lower edge and the other side being cut away along the lower edge on its inner face, a die-plate adapted to fit between the lower edges of the said sides, and a clamp carried by the side cut away along the lower edge; said clamp being adapted to project over the said edge and hold the dieplate in position.
2. A device of the kind described comprising a dieholder having two parallel side pieces, one of said side pieces havinga recess formed in its inner face adjacent and parallel to its lower edge and the other side piece being cut away along the lower edge intermediate its ends and on its inner face, a springactuated clamp secured to the outer face of the last-mentioned side piece and adapted to project over the lower edge of the said side piece, and a die-plate oppositely cut away on the sides'and adapted to fit between the lower edges of the said side pieces, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
