ROBERT C. PEDERSEN AND ERSKINE C. MGGONNELL, OF WATERLOO, IOWA, ASSIGNORS TO THE UNITED NECKWEAR MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF W'ATERLOO, IOWA, A
CORPORATION OF IOWA.
FASTENER FOR BOW-TIES.
Patented Mar. 19, 1918.
Application filed July 13, 1917. Serial No. 180,339.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ROBERT C. PnDERsnN and ERSKINE O. MCCONNELL, citizens of the United States of America, and residents of lVaterloo, Blackhawk county, Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners for Bow-Ties, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in bow-tie fasteners, and the object of our improvement is to furnish means for detachably mounting a bow-tie on a collar.
This We have accomplished by the following means, which are hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is arear elevation of a bow-tie with our improved fastener secured thereon; Fig. 2 is a plan or edge view of the fastener only; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the fastener; Fig. 4 is a front elevation thereof, and Fig. 5 is a transverse section thereof, taken on the broken. line 2 2 of said Fig. 2.
Similar numerals of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The bow-tie 7c is shown partially disorganized in order to fully display our fastener secured on its rear part by means of stitching Z.
The fastener comprises two members a, and 6, both of curvilinear form, nested in overlaid position in registration, being preferably of the same length, and secured together by medially located rivets g. The forward member a, after being placed medially longitudinally upon the back of the bow-tie la, is secured thereto by stitches Z carried about the middle zone of the members, and also at the ends by stitches passed through holes m.
The other member I) has a pair of like semi-cylindrical crimps f at each side of its flattened medial Zone 6. The extremities of both the members a and b are bent oppositely divergingly at h and 71 respectively, to permit of easy insertion of the edge of a collar between them. Both members have their limbs medially longitudinally crimped at 0 and d respectively with the apices or ridges of the crimps contacting each other to tightly grasp a collar between them.
This fastening device is particularly adapted for mounting a bow-tie on a stiff collar, since the longitudinal ridges 0 and d engage the collar along a line which concentrates the grip, and pinches the collar be tween them so as to effectually retain the tie in place.
The transverse crimps f afford resiliency to the limbs of the member I), and insure its crimps (Z alining and engaging with the crimps a on the member a.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A bow-tie fastener, comprising medially connected. overlaid plates, having longitudinal crimps whose ridges are in contact.
2. Abow-tie fastener, comprising medially connected overlaid curvilinear plates, having longitudinal crimps whose ridges are in contact, the extremities of said plates being bent outwardly divergingly.
3. A bow-tie fastener, comprising overlaid curvilinear plates, medially connected together, one plate having spaced transverse medially located crimps, and having longitudinal crimps extending from said transverse crimps, whose ridges engage the abutting surface of the other plate.
Signed at Waterloo, Iowa, this 25th day of June, 1917.
