Description

E. C. CHESNEY.
BELT SLIDE.
APPUCATSOH man JUNEZH. m5.
mmo'w. Patented MM. 12, 1918.
ERAS'MUS C. CHESNEY, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
BELT-SLIDE.
I Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June S31, 1915. Serialllo. 35,342.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Erasmus C. CHESXEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at No. 3981 Euclid avenue, in Kansas City, in the county of Jackson, in the State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Belt-Slides, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to belt slides.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a belt slide of this character wherein various articles of apparel upon a wearer will be supported when the said belt is applied to the waist of the user within the trousers, the belt being readily and quickly adjusted according to the size of the waist of the wearer.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a belt slide of this character wherein the button engaging elements are of novel form and mounted in a manner to permit convenient adjustment of the same to the desired points suitable to the taste or fancy of the wearer of the belt or for accommodating the members to the buttons upon the garment to which the belt is applied.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a belt slide of this character which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, strong, durable and inexpensive in manufacture.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part hereinafter set forth.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a belt constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective detail view of one of the buckle or clasp members for holding the ends of the belt together;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail plan view of one of the button engaging members;
Fig. 4 is a detail perspective View of the other of the buckle or clasp members for holding the ends of the belt together.
Similar reference characters indicated corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally a band or strap, which constitutes the belt, preferably made from elastic webbing or other like material and is of the required length for use about the waist of a wearer, although said band or strap may be varied in length, width and thickness or made of any suitable material as the occasion may require.
Connected to the band or strap A at the end portion thereof are, the buckle or clasp members 13 and C respectively, each being in the form of a plate 10 having therein a plurality of spaced parallel slots 11 which are disposed crosswise. of said. plate, and in any one or more of the same is received the companion end portion of the band or strap A so that in this manner the buckle or clasp member can be readily adjusted thereon for varying the size of the same to accommodate it to different sizes of wearers.
The buckle or clasp member B is formed with a pair of holes 12, while the buckle or clasp member C ha." cut and stamped outwardly therefrom a pair of hook-like lugs 13 which are received by the holes 12 for detachable connection of the buckle or clasp members together in the fastening of the belt about the waist of the user.
Upon the band or strap A are slidably arranged button engaging devices D, each comprising a flattened loop frame 14 through which is trained said band or strap A, the side cheeks of the loop frame letbeing cut away to provide open centers 15 which, at the inner and outer sides of said frame, are opposite each other, and thereby lightening the weight of the frame without minimizing the strength of the same.
Cut from the front cheek of each loop frame 14 at the upper corners of the open centers are pint-1e sleeves or eyes 16 in which are received and journaled the pivot terminals 17 of a substantially W-shaped button engaging bail or yoke 18 formed from a single strand of relatively resilient wire. The bail or yoke 18, at the substantially V- shaped medial portion 19, is formed at the smaller extremity thereof with an open ringlike eye 20 which communicates with the entrance space between the stretches of the V-shaped medial portion 19 for receiving the attaching portion of the button upon a garment when the said attaching portion passes into the bail or yoke for the engagement of the latter upon the button. One stretch Patented Mar. 12,1918.
which restricts the point of communication of the eye 20 with the entrance space for the attaching medium of the button so that the bail or yoke will be held engaged with the button when the belt is placed about the waist of the wearer and fastened for use in supporting the trousers or other Wearing apparel.
The bail or yoke 18, by reason of its swinging connection with the loop frame 1-1, permits the convenient engagement of each of the bails or yokes 18 with the buttons on a garment such as a pair of trousers, and subsequent to engagement of the belts or yokes permits of the swinging of the band A constituting the belt inwardly and downwardly Within the trousers at the waist line thereof so that the belt is invisible from the outside of the trousers.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and manner of use of the herein described belt slide will readily be apparent and, therefore, a more extends explanation has been omitted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim: 7 r
In a belt, slides, each slide including a flattened loop frame the side cheeks of which are cut away to provide open centers, pintle sleeves formed at the upper corners of the open centers, a W-shaped button engaging bail formed from a single strand of resilient Wire pivotally suspended from the sleeves, an eye formed at the vertex of the substantially U-shaped medial portion of the bail adapted to receive the attaching portion of a button on a garment, and a nib'formed in one stretch of the medial portion for restricting the point of communication of the eye and adapted to prevent accidental displacement of the attaching portion of a button therefrom.
