To all about it may concern.
Be it known that l. Pannier. J. hirnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mercer, in the county of Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful llniprovcmonts in Tics, of which. the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a. tie for securing a brick wall to a wooden structure and has for its primarv object to so construct a dcvicc that a portion thereof may be readily driven into the wooden structure, without marring the remaining portion.
Besides the above my inventioi'i is distinguished in the novel manner of connecting the shank to the body portion of the tie so that the shank may be driven in the proper direction irrespective of the manner in which the device is driven by a hammer.
With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detail. description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1, is a perspective view of the tie.

Fig. 5, is a detail. view of a modification.
Referring to the drawing it will be seen that the tie is formed from a single length of wire 1, shaped to form a body 2, the extremities 3 and 4 of which being bent at an angle thereto. A shank 5 is formed as a continuation of the. extremity t, and extends at an angle thereto. The shank has its tree extremity sharpened and is further provided with barbs 6, adapted to effectively hold the shank in the wooden structure.
it very important feature of my invention is the manner of forming the tie at the point of juncture between the shank and the extremity 4t, so that the blows of a hammer delivered at different angles can be accommodatcd. At the point of junctur of the shank with the extremity 4i. 1 have bulged the tie as indicated at 7 so that the hammer striking surface 8 will be disposed to one side of the extremity f so that the hammer will not strike the extremity 4:.
The outward bend of the tie at this point reinforces the. tie at the point of juncture between the shank and the extremity 4:.
Another advantage of this bulged portion 7 that an instrument may be inserted behind for removing the tie as shown in the diagrammatic view Fig. 4.
In. Fig. 5, I have shown a slight modification wherein a portion of the tie as the point of juncture between the shank 5 and the extremity 4 is bent back upon itself as illustrated at 9 and as a result the shank 5 is reinforced throughout a portion of its length.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it should be apparent that I provide a device which is admirably adapted for the purpose for which it is intended, that the device is simple, durable and etlicient of construction and may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost and fur ther capable of being readily removed without marring to a great extent the wood work to which the device is applied. as clearly illustrated in Fig. l, of the drawing, where in an ordinary rod 5, is inserted behind the tie.
Having described my invention what I claim is A tie for the purpose set forth, comprising a rod bent to provide parallel oppositely extending members and a right angular member connecting said extensions, one of said extensions having its end pointed and its sides barbed, the other extension having its end bent at an outward angle with respect to the longitudinal aXis thereof, and the connecting member for the extensions at its juncture with the barbed and pointed member being rounded outwardly in the direction of the second mentioned are tension.
