To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLARD Panscorr I-IAwLuY, of Portland, in the county of Multnomah and in the State of Oregon, have invented a certain new and useful Improve ment in Dis'p-ensingBoxes, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof;

My invention relates to boxes adapted to dispense folded sheets of material of all kinds, but it is especially adapted for use in connection with folded paper sheets-such, for example as, paper towels, etc., and particularly such sheets when in the form of packs of interfolded sheets.

The object of my invention is to provide a construction of this character, in which the sheets may be readily removed from the container. A further object of my invention is to provide such a construction in which the Sheets may be removed from the container without undue friction. A still further object of my invention is to provide such a construction in which the free ends of the sheets, being removed from the container,

will not become wrapped around nor entangled in the parts used for reducing friction.

While my invention is capable of embodiment in many different forms, for the purpose of illustration, I have shown only one form thereof in the accompanying drawings, in which,

In the drawings I have shown a box 1,

At the bottom of the box there is an outlet opening 7, at either side of which there is located a tube 8 of metal, or any other suitable material, a section of which has been removed.

In the tubes 8, shown in the drawings, about one-quarter of each of the tubes has been removed in this manner. These tubes 8 having heads, are journaled on. rods 8*, which rods are held in place by straps 9 on the bottom of the box 1, and the tubes are continually forced upwardly by coil springs 10, lo-

cated in the interior of the tubes and having their upper ends 11 soldered or fastened in any other desired manner to the bottom of the box, and their lowerends 12 rest against the lower free edges of the sectional tubes 8. A pack of folded paper sheets 13, as for example, paper towels, is adapteol to be con tained within the box 1, the same being inserted by opening the door 2, and in such a manner that the lowermost sheet has its free edge 14 projecting through the opening 7 in the bottom of the box. In order to remove one of the towels, it is merely necessary to pull upon the. free edge 14 of the lowermost towel in the box. While the towel is thus being pulled out of the box, the tube 8, which is adjacent to the part of the towel being moved rotates a quarter of a revolution during the removal of the towel, and as soon as the same has been removed, said tube flies back under the influence of the spring 10, located in the same, thus reducing the friction due to the removal of the towel from the box 1. This results in the withdrawal of the lowermost towel from the box, and at the same time, the withdrawal of the free edge of the next succeeding towel in the pack 13 from the box, so that it projects through the opening 7. When the next towel is being removed from the box 1, in a similar manner, the other tube 8 is rotated as already described in regard to the other first mentioned tube, so as to reduce the friction incident to the removal of the towel from the box. The towels are thus removed from the box, one after another, and the construction of the parts provided for reducing friction is such as to obviate the possibility of the free ends of the towels becoming entangled therewith or drawn into the box due to the rotation of the said parts.

While I have described my invention above in detail, I wish it to be understood that many changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of my invention.

I claim:

1. A box constructed so as to dispense paper sheets, and a friction device thereon, comprising an oscillating tube, having a circumferential section thereof removed.

11. A box having a paper-sheet dispensing opening, a friction absorbing cylinder rotatably mounted adjacent said opening, and means for acting upon said cylinder to rotate it oppositely-to the rotation imparted bythe Withdrawal of the sheets.
