JAMES T. I-IOYT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PAPER HQLDER.
SEEDIFIGAT ION' forming art of Letters Patent No. 585,335, dated March 5, 1895.
Application filed April 19 1894- Serial No. 508,163. (No model.)
To c'tZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES T. HOYT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Feeding Sanitary or Toilet Paper, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to enable a large supply, say several rolls, of paper to be placed in position for feeding to the point of delivery, the supply being preferably such as to last for a period of several months or longer, thereby avoiding the necessity and labor of continually supplyinga fresh amount of paper at short intervals, and the invention consists in the novel features set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a sectional elevation of a supply of paper in condition for feeding. Fig. 2 is a section along a: m Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section along y y Fig. 1. V Fig. 4t is asection along .2 2 Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is an inverted plan View of Fig. 4'- Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. t, the box being open. Fig. 7 is a transverse section of the same.
In order to obtain alarge supply of paper I preferably provide a series of rolls wound either single or double or other thickness, one of the rolls being designated by A the others by A. As required for usethe paper is drawn in the shape of a tube or spiral B from the interior of roll A. As this roll is being used up toward its outeredge or termination, which termination is suitably connected as by a tape or connection 0 to the interior edge or commencement of the next succeeding roll A, said edge or termination when drawn toward the point of delivery will start or draw the commencement of said next succeeding roll to the point of delivery. Anumberot' rolls can thus be successively exhausted, each roll having its termination connected to the commencement or starting edge of the next succeeding roll or coil.
The rolls can be slipped or stored in a suitable case or housing D which if provided with a funnel E fixed or suitably attached to the case or box D will enable the supply of paper B being fed to travel or slide readily into guide-way or tube F communicating with tube or guide G either directly or by one or more intermediate sections G. Said tube G is secured to a cover H, said cover being connected to or forming part of a slide or plate I closing a box or case K. If the tube G is pulled upward it, with the cover II and plate I, moves up or away from the box K (Fig. 6) so as to open or uncover the top and front of the box and give access to the interior thereof. This case K has two pairs of rollers L L and M M suitably connected by gears D so that the rotation of any roller by a proj acting finger button can be made to rotate the rollers in the direction for discharging the paper as required through the outlet 0 of case K.
One roller of each pair L and M has its shaft in slotted bearings and pressed byspring action toward the other rollers so that the paper will be properly grasped between the rollers for feeding or instead of said spring pressed rollers a spring pressed plate might be employed as shown for example in United States Letters Patent No. 369,642, issued September (i, 1887, for cabinet for paper and other materials.
The tube G connecting with cover H and slide I of the box K or the section G as the case may be is usually held in abutment or alignment with tube F by a tongue or look. P
hinged at Q to the wall or other support and held closed by a padlock or fastening R. When the tongue P is opened or swung out of the way the tube G or section G can be inclined forward or laterally a sufficient distance to clear tube F and said tube G with cover H and slide I can then be moved up or opened to give access to the interior of box K.
The box or housing D can be put in any suitable locality in a water closet, as for exalnple on a ledge or shelf placed at a suitable height so as to be out of the Way, or even in another room on a shelf or suitable support so as to economize space.
The funnel or discharge E can be fixed to the case D or said case can be shipped without the funnel and the latter made suitably attachable to the case as desired.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An apparatus for feeding sanitary or toilet paper, consisting of a horizontally secured holder for a supply of paper, provided with a centrally and horizontally located outlet, a
tube or guide-way connected to said horizontally located outlet and curved or bent into a vertical delivery portion, a casing provided with feed mechanism and having its top and front open, and a closing device for said top and front, consisting of a top plate or cover and a front plate connected'to said top plate, the top plate being provided with a tube or Way leading therethrongh and made to cor- IO respond with the vertical delivery portion of the curved guide-way, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
