Description

HENRY ESSEX;
Lock Cocks.
NO 125,799. Patented Kpri|16,1872.
HENRY ESSEX, 0E MEADVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN LOCK-COCKS.
Specification forniiu g part of Letters Patent No. 125,799, dated April 16, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY ESSEX, of M eadville, in the county of Crawford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lock-(locks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in one or more holes in the plug, with a hole in the body, so that the plug may be looked either open or shut by means of a pin, and a staple in the body over said pin for the attachment of a padlock, so that the pin cannot be raised to unlock the plug without first removing the padlock.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and A represents the body of the cock, and B r the plug of the same. In the body A is ahole for the passage of a pin, a, and in the-plug B are two or more holes corresponding with the hole in the body, so that the pin a may drop into the same and lock the plug either open or shut, as may be desired. Into the body, over the pin a, is east or otherwise immovably attached a staple, b, of such size that the said pin can be withdrawn from the hole in the plug but not from the hole in the body, and when a padlock is fastened in said staple the pin cannot be withdrawn from the plug. By this means the plug can be locked either open or shut, so that nobody but the proper person can change the same.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the body A and plug B with holes, as described, the pin a, and the staple b, substantially as and forthe purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY ESSEX.
