citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Dal- 7 las, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Raised-Stamp Tool, of which the following is a specification.

It is the object of this invention to provide a novel element adapted to be employed for stamping leather.

.By way of explanation it may be stated that in stamping leather, according to known. and existing methods, many separate implements must be used, and at least four steps must be gone through with, necessitating the use of separate tools, before the finished product results. For instance, a de' sign is first, cut with a carving tool, in the leather, according to a known procedure. Then the back ground is sunk around the figure and is stippled or hatched with another tool. Then the edges of the design are beveled off, and finally the design is burnished, shaded and otherwise finished.

in view of the foregoing, one object of the present invention is to provide a novel form of tool whereby, in a single operation, a design may be cut, the back ground. formed and stippled, the edges of the design finished off, and the design. given a burnished appearance.

It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.

With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In carrying out the present invention there is provided a tool comprising a stem 1 and a head 2. The working face of the head 2 may be variously constructed, de pending upon the nature of the design to be produced, but one form of working face for the head being shown, and it being understood that the specific configuration. of the working face of the head may be altered, depending upon the nature of the design to be rought. In the present instance, the head 2 of the tool is provided with a rib 3, the working edge of which is toothed, roughened or otherwise constructed as shown at l, so as to leave a characteristic mark 011 the material. YVithin the rib 3 is a projection 5 of any desired shape, and adapted to form a design. The projection 5 cooperates with the rib 3 to form a groove 6 between the projection and the rib, the edges of the projection 5 being beveled, as shown at 7, to ward the base of the groove 6.

The numeral 10 in Fig. 4 designates a piece of leather, upon which has beenproduced a design by repeated applications of the tool shown in Fig. 1, it being understood that the head 2 of the. tool is placed on the leather 10 and is embedded therein by a hammer blow on the end of the stem 1. The projection 5 outlines one element of the design as shown at 11. The groove 6 produces a rib 12. The configurations t on the rib 3 form a back ground 14 and, owing to the beveling indicated at T on the projection 55, a burnishing effect is produced.

It will be seen that the structure forming the subject matter of this application outlines the design, thereby doing away with carving, it produces a ba ck ground, and burnishes the product as well, all of these results being brought about in a single operation.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed. is

1. A tool of the class described having an outwardly beveled rib provided with a roughened face adapted to form a background, there being a projection within the said rib, adapted to form a design.
