To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, HENRY W. GooDNow, a citizen of the United States. residing at lVorcester, in the county of Vorcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Folding Box, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a folding box particularly adapted for attachment as a match-holder to a display-card or other atlvertising device.

t is the object of my invention to provide a device of this 'type so designed that it may be folded at for shipment or storage. and that it may be placed in operative condition. by the simplest manipulation.

1t is a further object of my invention to provide a box of this type in which the parts will remain in operative position without necessitating the use of paste or cement or other retaining devices.

.ein important advantage of my invention arises from this latter feature as the box may be refolded to flat or shipping condition, which is often desired and notJ possible with a box in which the parts must be pasted or cemented together in order to remain in operative relation.

My invention further relates to arrangements and combinations of parts hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

A preferred form of my invention is shown in the drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of my improved folding box mounted on a display-card;

Fig. 2 is a view similar to FiO. 1, but showing the box in folded condition;

Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the device shown in Fig. 1;

Fig. 4f is a similar view showing the box folded as in Fig. 2, and

Figs. 5 and 6 are vertical sectional views taken along the lines 5 5 and 6 6 in Figs. 1 and 2 respectively.

Referring to the drawings, I have shown my folding box as mounted upon a displaycard 10 on which any desired advertising may be placed. The box itself comprises two separately foldable members. One of these members consists of a front side or face 11, a back 12, and two vertical sides 13 12 is commonly cemented or gummed to a supporting card or other device. The front 11 may preferably receive a coating of sand to forni a scratching surface.

The inner member or bottom of my improved folding box is formed of four sides 157 16, 17 and 18 (Fig. rEhe length of these sides corresponds to the width of the box when unfolded, and the sides are hingedly connected at their edges similarly to the parts previously described. The side 17 is permanently secured to the front 11 of the box and the upper side 16 constitutes the surface upon which the matches or other articles rest.

A portion of the lower edge of the back 12 is cut to form lugs 19 and 2O which are left` free from the display-card or support. These lugs commonly rest against the display-cardv when the box is folded, but when the box is unfolded the lugs may be bent outward as shown in Fig; 3, in which position they form a support for the swinging side 18 of the inner member or bottom of the box.

VHaving described the construction of the parts of my improved folding box the rela-l tive operation thereof will be apparent. The front and side members are first moved from the position shown in Figs. 2 and 4 to that shown in Fig. 3. The lugs 19 and 20 are then bent forward if necessary and the inner or bottom member is then moved downward until the outer movable edge portion of the side 18 rests upon the lugs 19 and 20. rlhe bottom is then firmly supported and the several parts cooperate to retain the box in open and usable condition. 1f the box is to be refolded the bottom is pressed upward against the front 11 and the outer member is then flattened as shown in Fig 4.

The parts of my improved folding boxare commonly formed of thin pasteboard or tag board or other similar material which may be scored to form the lines of fold. I do not limit myself, however, to the use of any particular material as other kinds of fiat sheet material may be readily substituted for the materials mentioned.

Having` thus described my invention, it will be evident that other changes and modifications can be made therein by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention as set forth in the claims, andv I do not Wish vto be other- Wise limited to the details herein disclosed,

but what I -do claim is- 1. A folding box having, in combination, an outer member comprising a front, back, and sides all hingedly connected at adjacent l edges, a Jolding bottom, and means to sup-V Y porty said bottom in operative position, said bottom being formed of four rectangular ortions of sheet material hinfred at the edges to form a hollow inner ,memberv having'open ends and having one face secured to a face oi the outer member, said bottom closing one end of said box tive position.

2. A `folding box having, in combination,

3.
