GLOBE-HOLDER.
Mamas:
' I Specification of Letters Patent.
ilPatented'heh. 5, rare.
application filed May 3.7, 1916, Serial No. 98,223.
vented certain new and useful Improvements in Globe-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in globe holders,.and'particularly to such as are intended to suspend a globe from or to support a globe on top of a lamp post. I
The chief object of this invention is to provide a globe holder adapted to securely and tightly clamp the rim of a globe with out the danger of breaking or otherwise damaging it, the holder being further adapted to prevent the-globe from being vibrated by the wind and to make a water tight joint between the globe and its support.
Nith the above and related objects in view, my invention comprises the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, a practical application whereof is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and is embraced within the scope of the appended claims.
In. the said drawing:l igure 1 illustrates my improved holder in connection with a globe suspended from a lamp post; Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary section of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a. perspective view of a section of the holder shown in Fig. 1; Fig. -it is a plan view of the holder, and Fig. 5 is an open View of the holder.
Referring more 3ai.'ticularly to the drawing for a detail. description of my invention, 6 represents a portion of a lamp post provided with an overhanging lamp 7, 8 represents an inclosing globe, 9 represents the globe holder, 10 represents an annular flange of the post surrounding the seat of the rim 11 of the globe.
The holder @"is in the shape of a split channeled ring joined. by a hinge 12, one portion of the holder carrying a latch 13 and the other carrying a catch it. Each half of the holder comprises a base 15, an outer upright flange l6 and an inner flared flange 17. The outer flange 16 is provided with bayonet slots 18 adapted to register with bolts 19 carried by the flange oi the post.
The base of the holder is adapted to close about the bight of the globe with its flange 1'? about a packing 2O surrounding the flared rim of the globe. When the holder is thus closed to carry the globe, it is adapted to receive the flange of the post between its own flanges with the bolts 19 projected through the bayonet slots of the flange 16 and to be clamped by the wing nuts 21.
The holder is also adapted to be suspended from the post by a chain 22 to gain access to the interior of globe.
Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A globe holder comprising a channeled ring provided with bayonet slots on the outer side of the channel, the top of the channel being narrower than its bottom, said ring consisting of two semicircular parts joined by a hinge at one end and provided with means for'connecting and disconnectin the ends opposite the hinge. v
2. The combination of a lamp post provided with an annular flange and a globe carrier provided with a channel. for the post flange and with flanges on opposite sides of i the post flange, the outer flange of the carrierbeing adapted to be joined with the post flange, said carrier consisting of two parts hinged together at one end, said parts being adapted to close aboutthe rim of the globe, and means for joining the parts to hold the globe.
The combination of a lamp post provided with an annular flange and a globe provided with a rim adapted to be surround: ed by the dance, a globe carrier COIlSlSbIDg of two sectors hinged together at one en and adapted to close about the rim of the globe, means for joining the sector at the opposite end. .to prevent the release of the globe, said carrier provided with a channel for the post flange and with. an exterior flange surrounding the post flange, and
means for joining said flanges.
l. The combination of a lamp post 3130- vided with a seat surrounded by l flan re and a globe provided with a flaring rim or the seat of the post, a holder consisting of two sectors hinged together at one end and adapted to close about the rim of the globe and means for joining the sectors to hold the gldbe, said holder provlded with an 1nner fiange adapted to close about the rim of In testimony whereof I have signed this the globe and with an outer flange adapted specification in the presence of two subto surroundv the flange. of the post, said scribing Witnesses.
holder provided with a seat for the post KRICHARD C. HAGER. flange between said outer and inner flanges, Witnesses: v and means for clamping the outer flange C. WILSON ROBERTS,
of the holder onto the post flange. CARRIE E.-HAUBERT.
