lau
Be it known that I, FRANZ KISTEMANN, a
i citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, county of Kings, and State et' New York, have .invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing-Galois..`
ticularly with paper towels, napkins,- and the A like, although applicable, also, to other uses.
One of the especial objectsof the invention is `to provide a cabinet which will ef-` iiciently deliver paper towels or napkins from a considerable vertical pile, which heretofore has been found ditilcult2 on account of the' large weight of the pile upon the sheet being withdrawn, the friction caused by the weight of the pile being such as to interfere with the withdrawal of sheets or evenl result in the tearing of sheets if of thin material. 'This diiiiculty is avoided in accordance with the present invention byproviding sheet supports on opposite sides of the delivery which are movedto press against lthe sheets and relieve the pressure of the pile of sheets upon the portion of a sheet that is being withdrawn. The inven- `tion includes providing supports normally forming a flat bottom for `the pile of sheets and actuated" by the withdrawal of a sheet to raise the stack and prescnt'an inclined surface for the withdrawal of the sheet. The
tit)
supports are preferably mounted so as to rock or tilt, and preferably connected so as to rock in'opposite directions as lthe sheet is withdrawn, the support on the side opposite that from which the sheet is being withdrawn rocking upward atthe slot so that it tends to raise the pile of sheets, and
the other support rocking downward 'at the slot so as to presentan inclined surface and decrease the angle-of delivery and aid in .securing an easy withdrawal. 'lhe friction of the sheets is preferably further reduced .and space for the rolling et the sheet in withdrawal provided, by making vthe portions of the sheet supports over which the sheets are withdrawn narrow and preferably rounded, seas to further reduce the friction Patented. dan., 232, lllllli@n Application filed October 29, 1911i. Serial No. 869,200.
on the sheet being Withdrawn and provide space for the rolling of the sheetin delivery.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, there is shown for lpurpose o illustration a cabinet for interleaved towels or napkins, embodying all the features of the inventionin the preferred eel rtorna now known to me, and certain modi cations thereof, and these constructions will now be described in detail and' the features forming the invention then specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings:
Figure l is an end elevation of the preferred form of cabinetY with the end wall broken away to show `the construction;
F ig. 2 is a front elevation of the same, partly in section.;
Fig. 3 is a detail section, similar to Fig. il, but on a larger scale and showing the parts in -the position of commencing the withdrawal of a sheet;`
Fi i is a View similar to Fig. 3, but showing t e parts when the pperation ofv withdrawing the saine sheet isnearly completed;
Figs. 5 and 6 are views corresponding in position, respectively, to Figs. l and 3, showing a modification, and j lltig.` 7 is a view similar to'Fig. 5, showing another modification.
Referring to the drawings, A is the' outer casing of the cabinet, shown as a box adapted to be secured to the wall, as by backing plate lB, and having at the front a hinged drop door C by which the boxA may be lled from the front. 'The bottom of the box is open or partially open, and at or near the bottom are mounted two plates/10, ,l1 ex= tending lthe length of the borg and pivoted at y 1 in the endsof the box. These plates'are separated at their adjacent ends suciently ttt to form ,the usual delivery slot, through which the sheets a: are-withdrawn. Toscure the rocking .or tilting of the plates 10, l1 simultaneously in opposite directions mthe plates are provided at opposite ends with arms 12 which are connected by links 13,
these arms preferably being inside the box, as shown. ril`he .links 13 perform the further itunction of limiting' the tilting ot the vplates 10, ll. although in some instances this ica .limitation or the tilting movement'rnay 'be p accomplished. by other means. 1Upon the Vplates l0, l1 are preferably mounted narrow Securing,r the riady and proper delivery of' the sheets, although in many eases the plates l0, ll may be used without these narrow bars. These bars .i4 nray he rounded on top, as shown, for ease ot' rocking moven'ient et the plates and withdrawal of the sheets.
The operation of the construction will be. understood from the drawings and a briet| description.
In Figs. l and 2 the parts are shown in their nornial position, with the plates 1t), 11 horizontal, to which position they are returned by the weight ot' the, pile of sheets after the sheet has been withdrawn. On startingthe withdrawal of the sheet m, the
, pull on the Sheet tilts the plates l0, 1l troni vcent edge ,the saine time, so that the inner edge ot the position shown in Fig. l, to that shown in Fig'. 3, the end ot plate l() over which the Sheet is' being withdrawn being tilted so as t0 Permit the sheet to be withdrawn troni an inclined surface. and at a less angle than otherwise would be possible, and the. adjaot' plate ll being tilted upward at plate il lifts the weight ot' the pile of Sheets oil" the portion ol the, bottoni sheet being withdrawn and thun relieves the friction on this sheet. The 'friction on the sheet is further reduced by the narrow bar 14, and ample space tor the rolling ot' the. sheet. outside this bar is prdvided, as shown in Fig. 3. 0n the Withdrawal ol the Sheet troni the lett Side et the box, as Shown in Fig. 3, the pull ot' the Sheet upon plate l1 reeks the plates l0, l1 in the opposite direction, so that the right hand portion ot the sheet is withdrawn over the inner edge oi"` plate 1l,
' and the inner edge of plate 10 acts to lift- ,livei'y. lnuriediately upon the withdrawal allieve described, and, although the roeliiing movement of the supports has 'neen t` '1nd neferalile. other movements oi the sup; rts
-inav be used under .seine Conditions. so hat the reciting inofvenient is not essential to the invention in ite` broadest aspect. lt will he understood, also, that the invention may be applied to other Aforms of boxes than that Shown, and with the sheets withdrawn either alternately troni opposite sides ot the delivery Slot, or always troni the saine Side. lVhile especially applicable, Ato boxes, in which the `sheets are fed troni a vertical pih, and the pile is rained or pressed vertically to relieve the, )fessure on the bottoni sheet, the invention may be applied, also, to constructions in which the Sheets lie on their edges, and the pile moves horizontally or in a direction inclined to the vertical under Spring or other pressure. i
l have. shown in Figs. 5 to 7 two modified tornis oi' eonstruetion, by whieh iairly satislaetory results may be secured with certain sheets. ln the construction shown in Figs. ."i and (i, rocking sui'iports` are used eonsisting oi rolls 1.3 carried in har.Q 1G pivoied at Ll centrally and in line with the. roll pivots, so that on the withdrawal of a sheet .'11, one roll is lowered and the other raised, as shown elearly in Fig. t3, and on the 'further withdrawal ot' the sheet, the bars lt are rocked in the. opposite direction, so as to reverse the rolls, and on the complete delivery of the sheet, the hare` and rolls return to their normal position. shown in Fig. 5, the alternate lifting; olE the pilel of sheen; at opposite sides et the delivery slot to relieve they pressure on the sheet being withdrawn, being generally the suine as that deaerihed above in connection' with'lfiga. l to l. ln Fig. 7 l have shown a construction siinilar to that shown in Figs. 5 and (i, except that the pivots il ot thel hars iti are considerably be? iow the center ot the rolle la, the rocking inoveuient of the rolls thue being;r aoinewhat inoditied. ln both of the. constructions just deaerihmh Stops 3 are' preferably provided to liniit the inovenient of the bars 1G in opposite directions. Rigid bars may he used in place of the rolls l5, but the rolls are preterable for reducing friction and securing an easy delivery.
It will be understood that. the invention is not to he limited to the specific constructions shown and described, as many changes may he made without departing trom the scope of the invention as covered hy thc claims,
