being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification. i The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a hinge for show-cases, &c., as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which` Figure lis a perspective view of a showcase door with my improved hinges attached, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the hinge.

A represents the lower, and B the upper leaf of my hinge. The lowerleafA'consists nlerely of a plate of suitable dimensions, having a slot in the center from the upper end downward as far as may be necessary. At the upper end of the leaf A on each side of the central s-l-ot is formed an ear, a., for the. passage of the bolt or rivet b which pivots the upper leaf to the lower. The upper leaf B consists also of a plate, provided with an eccentric, C, f1tting in between the ears a ct, and pivoted to the same by a bolt or rivet, b. This eccentric C is hollowed out on the under side, thereby saving labor and material. To the inner side of the lower leaf A, at or near the lower end, is secured a spring, D, which projects and returns through the slot in the lower leaf below the eccentric C, and its upper end bent npward, as shown in Fig. 2, against the end of the eccentric. By this means opportunity is given for a spring long enough to give the hinge the required amount of action without straining the spring. It will also be seen that the eccentric C is so arranged as to cushion on the spring when the door is open.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. The spring D, projecting and returning through the lower leaf A of the hinge, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.

2. 'Ihe within-described hinge for show-cases, Ste., consisting ofthe leaves A B, eccentric (l, and spring D, when said parts are constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. v
