Description

I H. EDELSONV. SNA'P FASTENING FOR GARMENTS, m.
APPLICATION FILED FEB-26,19I7- Patented J an. 8, 1918.
INVENTOR STATES PATENT @FFTQE.
HARRY EDELSON, OF PHILADELPELA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO REGAL BUTTON WORKS, INC., 015 PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, A. CORPORATION OF NEV] YORK.
SNAP-FASTENING FOR GARMENTS, 850.
Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented Jan, 8, i918.
Application filed February 26, 1917. Serial No. 150,919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY EnnLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Snap-Fastening for Garments, &c., of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a fastening for a dress, or other garment, or article, which is formed of socket and male members of the order of a snap, the socket member being constructed of a tubular body, and a base plate carrying the same, said body and plate being adapted to be highly resilient so as to effectively hold the male member firmly engaged with the socket member and vice versa.
The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details shown and described.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the socket member of a snap fastening embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 represents a bottom plan view thereof.
Fig. 3 represents a transverse section on line 33 Fig. 1.
Fig. e represents a perspective view of a male member of the fastener.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings,
1 designates the socket member of a snap fastening, and 2 designates the male member thereof, the latter named member being of usual construction.
The socket member is formed of the base plate 3 the swaged or struck up tubular body 4 of which projects centrally from the former and is adapted to receive the head of the male member as usual in such cases.
The side wall of the head of the male member is formed with incisions or slits 5 therethrough, the same extending in the direction of the length thereof from the plate 3 to near the outer terminal end of said body leaving said end closed or substantially solid as at 6, but owing to the incisions or slits 5 in the side wall of the hollow body of the socket said wall is formed into resilient sec tions 7, whereby when the head 8 of the male member 2 is forced into said body, the sections 7 are expanded by the same and so caused to close tightly on said head and so hug the same as to retain the two members 1 and 2 firmly in engagement, after the manner of snap fastenings, but with increased effect, owing to the resiliency of the sections 7 of the body of the socket. This resiliency is further increased by forming incisions or slits 9 in the base plate 3, the same extending radially from the inner terminal of said body to some extent toward the circumferential rim of said plate, said incisions or slits 9 being continuities of the incisions or slits 5 in the side of the tubular body, and forming in said plate a number of segmental sections 10 of resilient nature around the inner end of the body 4, the same being continuities of the resilient sections 7 of said body and so providing greater resiliency and holding power for the socket member in its engagement with the male member 2.
Each member'is provided with openings for sewing or attaching them to the parts of garments to which they are applied.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Leo ters Patent, is
1. In a fastening of the order of a snap, a socket member formed of a tubular body, and a base plate having a circumferential struck-up ed 'e and adapted to carry the same, said body having" a closed end and said plate having therein divisions extending from the inner end of said body toward the rim of the plate forming separate sections in said plate providing for the resiliency of the latter.
2. In a fastening of the order of a snap, a socket member formed of a tubular body having a closed end, and a base plate having a circumferential struck-up edge and adapted to carry the same, said body having in its side wall longitudinally-extending divisions forming separated sections in said ing separate sections in said plate providing Wall providing for the reslhency of said for the resiliency of the latter.
body, and said plate having therein divisions HARRY EDELSON. extending from the inner end of said body Witnesses:
5 toward the rim oi the plate and being in JOHN A. ITIEDERSHEIM,
