Description

' J. (L H. ROY;
HTTING FORM.
APPLICATION HLED DEC-2,1916.
Pat ented Jan. 8, 1918.
ATTORNEY/- FIG. I.
WITNE/E/l To all whom it may concern:
and finishing of wearing apparel.
aosnra om m. or moment, eusnsc, camera.
Be it known that I. JOSEPH OREA HENRI ROY, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of 1172 Delorimer street, in the city of Montreal, Province of Quebec, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fitting- Forms, of which the following is the specification.
The invention relates to improvements in fittin forms as described in the present speci cation and illustrated in the ac'com panying drawings, thatform part of the same. Y
The invention consists essentially'of the novel shapes and arrangement of patterns andinflation bags, whereby the fitting form is readily adapted to persons of either-sex or of mature or tender years in age.
The objects of the invention are -to-devise a form, which may be'made individual to the person using it andcontinue to serve as a model for fittingand making the garments from time to time without theactualpresence of the person, and generally to;
provide a useful article'that will, at a-inoderate initial expense, facilitate the cutting In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vational view of the inflating member. v Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the inflation member, casing and pattern.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken at right angles to the view shown in'F-ig. 2.
cent to the lower end.
Fig. 5 is a side elevational view of the complete form on a stand showing the box group of patfastening of the case to the edge o the base. showing the latter broken away.
Like numeral of reference indicate -cor responding parts ineac h figure.
Referring to the drawings, the inflation. bag 1 is preferably formed of air tight rub-.
ber cloth having little or no resiliency inthe material itself, the said'bag in shape converging slightly from the hip portion 2 to the waist portion 3 and from said waist.
portion spreading to the shoulders 4, wider than said hip portion, and sloping upwardly and inwardly to the neck portion 5, thetapered v cannot-Letters Patent. Application filed December a, 1916. Serial No. 184,868.

- valve orifice containing the air valve 6. The
shoulder hooks 7 are secured in the rubber 7 material at the extremities of the bag at said shoulders 4, the breast hooks 8 in the front, one at each side, and similar hooks at the back, the hip hooks 9 just .below the r widest bulge in the bag in that portion, the
hook-10 near the bottom at the front and a similar one at the back. The bag thus made in this peculiar shape.
adapts itself readily to the various figuresof men, women and children asthe patterns determine the peculiarities of the figure and this shape of bag extends the patterns to the contour of the person fitted notwithstandingany peculiarities of form.
The bag 1 is separated centrally just below the -neck portion '5, by the elongated passage '11, which extends clear through from front to back to enable the insertion I of a pattern" piece to draw in the bag to the corresponding depth of chest through to the back of the person to be fitted. g The seams all around this passage both at the front and back and also through are perfectly air tight, so that the inflation of the bag is in no way interfered with.
The said passage 11 starts at the lowe end of the breast and terminates at the neck, consequently the chest is drawn in sufiiciently to resemble closely the human form as it shapes inwardly to the neck and similarly the back is drawn in between the shoulder blades.
The case 12 is shaped similarly to the bag 1 and has a corresponding hole for the valve 6 in the neck portion 13 and at the bottom a band 14 in which are a number of hook holes 15. The eyes 16 correspond in number to the various hooks attached to the bag 1 and are secured to the inside of the case 12, so that the said bag 1 can be readily attached to the case 12 at all necessary parts before the said bag is blown up.
' The base 17 is of oval shape and made of wood or metal or other "suitable material and has projecting from the edge face the" be and-adjustable red 19'- screw threaded into'the center of the base 17 in the underside at its upper end and at its lower end into the center of the box 20, which is intended to contain the their collapsed state.
The attern piece 21 alreadymentioned general y is a tubular piece of textile mate rial cut with a projecting downward point 22 at the back thereof lengthening the back openin of the piece as compared .to. the.
front. his piece 21 is sewn to the case 12 at the front and back and extends through .the passage 11 in the bag 1, thereb measuring permanently, while the set 0 patterns.-
are used, the depth of the chest from front to rear in' the lnflated bag to corres 0nd precisely with the depth of the chest 0 the person measured. I
. The neck band pattern piece 23'encircles' the neck portion of the said case below the neck pattern piece 24. The front pattern pieces 25 are in pairs for the front of the form, and are cut to the person similarlv to the pieces 21, 23 and 24, though intended to take in the front half of the figure from just below the hips to the neck,-
including the groin, the hips, the abdomen, the waist, the breast and the shoulders. Thesepieces 25 have in the breast' a comparatively short V-cut 26, below the breast a longer V-cut 27 and at the lower end a medium V,-cut 28, these cuts being judged largely by the person measured. The back pattern pieces 29. are cut similarly to measurement in pairs and include the posterior, the hips, the waist, the small of the back and the shoulders up to the neck,
said pieces 29 having the V-cut 30 at the shoulders. and the V-cut 31 at the bottom, the latter with the cut 28 being used in drawing in the cloth of the patterns to the base 17 by means of the pattern piece 32 ]which is placed over the underside of'said ase. I
The arm pattern piece 33 is tubular and is adapted to be sewn on at the shoulder and filled with a separate inflatable bag.
In the use of this fitting form, the pat- I terns are first out according to the measurements of the person for whom the 'form is be ng prepared.
The patterns will if required be fitted I on the person, so as to have them exact to parts in the figure, after that operation they are in readiness to be permanently'sec'ured over the case 12 and base 17, the pattern 21 being first inserted within the case to regulate the depth of the chest.
.The several patterns are securely sewn over the case 12 and remainv permanently there, so long as the person remains the same as to measurements, consequently the said person can leave the fitting form at any place for use during an absence as the presence of the person for he purpose of fitting is never required, because the form gives a precise reproduction ofthe body down to include the groins and posterior.
Various changes may be made in making this fitting form without departing from the spirit of the invention, so long as they remain within the scope of the claim for novelty following.
It may be mentioned that the hooks attached to the bag are in each instance strengthened by reinforcing straps, which also materially increase the strength of the bag at parts most necessary, also it has not been stated that the case- 12 is of smaller dimensions than the bag 1 though of precisely similar shape, except as to the pas- 7 sage 11.
' Whatl claim is In a fitting form, an inflating bag having tion neck band, neck piece, arm piece, bottom piece, front pieces in duplicate clipped at bottom and breast and back pieces in duplicate clipped'at shoulder and bottom.
Signed at the city of Montreal, Canada this 13th day of November 1916."
